A few months ago I spent 40 minutes manually copying transactions from a PDF bank statement into a spreadsheet. Line by line. Date, description, amount. Then I made a typo and had to start over.
That was the moment I decided to just build the thing.
What it does: Bank2Excel converts PDF bank statements into clean Excel or CSV files in seconds. You upload the PDF, AI extracts every transaction, and you download a spreadsheet ready for budgeting, accounting, or analysis.
No more copy-pasting. No manual data entry.
Why I built it myself: The existing tools I found were either $50/month enterprise products, region-locked (only US banks), or just bad at parsing anything beyond a simple layout. I wanted something simple, affordable, and that actually works on Asian banks too.
Where it is now:
Supports HSBC, Chase, Bank of America, DBS, Taishin, and Cathay United
Outputs Excel (.xlsx) and CSV
Processes statements in under 30 seconds
Free tier available, paid plans from $9/month
What's hard: Every bank formats their PDFs differently. Some use tables, some use running text, some have footers that look like transactions. Getting the AI to reliably extract clean data across all of them has been the main engineering challenge.
What's next: More banks (open to requests), transaction categorization, and maybe a direct accounting software export.
If you've ever had to manually re-type a bank statement, I'd love to hear how you handle it now — and whether Bank2Excel would have saved you time.
