I built a Twitter growth tool that predicts user behavior

If you are following me on Twitter, then you know that I am actively building my audience there. The indie hacker community is very active on Twitter and so I decided to “build in public”.

Initially, I found it difficult to grow my Twitter following due to the fact that I had only a few followers. So I thought I should build a Twitter growth tool that will help people who are just starting out to build an audience on Twitter. In this post, I’ll talk about my Twitter growth tool that predicts users’ behavior on Twitter.

How did I come up with the idea?

While I was trying to grow my audience and was playing with Twitter API, I started to see patterns in how people were using the platform and I realized that I could use my knowledge of the platform to help people grow their audiences.

I was analyzing some Twitter data one day and the idea hit me. I could write an algorithm to calculate a score that is used to predict if a user is likely to follow you or reply to your engagement. This score is based on a number of factors such as the number of followers the user has, the number of people they are following, and the ratio of followers to following.

What do you need this prediction for?

By predicting which users are most likely to follow you or reply to you, you can save time and effort when trying to grow your Twitter following.

I quickly learned that engaging with other people is crucial for Twitter growth. However, it can be difficult to know how to do the engagements. When you are building an audience, it is important to engage with people effectively. This means being able to understand what interests them and responding in a way that engages them.

Effective engagement on Twitter is engaging in a way that leads to productive conversation and that leads to conversions. However, it can be time-consuming to select whom to connect with. My tool, LabSocial, can help identify the people who are most important for your effective engagement. And it can help you to save a lot of time by helping you to avoid sending replies that will fall on deaf ears.

How does LabSocial work?

Once you’ll log into LabSocial, it will take you to its dashboard where you can currently monitor 3 types of people on your Twitter network:

  • Your Twitter friends
  • Your following
  • Your followers

When you’ll visit any of the user list pages, it’ll show the predictions for those users on how likely they are to engage with you.

The preview of 'Twitter friends' page

Additionally, LabSocial allows you to easily see the list of your “Twitter friends.” When two people follow each other, I call them Twitter friends.

How can you use the tool?

To determine who you should engage with, you can filter the user list by how likely they are to reply. You can easily do that by selecting the “Filter Result” select field on each user list page. You can even sort the filtered results by the follower counter to further explore your audience better.

Filtering users by likeliness to reply

From that list, if a user’s topic matches your interest, you can check out their latest tweet and reply. You can also keep track of your previous interactions by clicking on the “Previous Interactions” button.

I hope that this post has provided you with a better understanding of my Twitter growth tool, LabSocial. The tool is still in its early stages, but it has already been helpful to many people who are building their audience on Twitter.

There is a public roadmap and a lot of new features are coming out soon. Feel free to upvote your favorite idea or request a new one. If you have any questions, please contact me on Twitter.

Awesome stuff Kazi! Love that it's different, not yet another Twitter thread writing tool.

Curious to hear more about the algo though, because that's where all the substance is. Would you consider sharing the underlying calculations? How does it predict? What factors and weightage? What's the accuracy so far?

    1. 1

      Thanks a lot Jason 🤗

Ya, other tools don't have the prediction feature.

The algo is not that complex tbh. It checks the follower-following ratio and tweet frequency of a user. I saw a pattern in this data and chose a score as a threshold based on data I had (which works fine with all the users). I may reveal the detailed formula in a future post.

There is still room for improvement, but one of the users told me that it's somewhat accurate. 😇
I am yet to do an accuracy test. Maybe it's a job for the future 👨🏻‍💻

Awesome! Will definitely try it out!

    1. 1

      Sounds good!

Let me know your feedback after trying it out 😇

  3. 2

Looks great, the only thing I recommend is to add a privacy policy / data policy.

    1. 1

There is a privacy policy at the bottom of the login page.

I need to add a detailed data policy. Thanks for the suggestion 🤗

This is so smart. One, this is just great stuff to share in the community in the first place so good on you. Two, it's interesting to see how you came up with the product in the first place. Three, you're making people aware of a need they didn't know they have, and then showing them how your product actually fulfills that need! I will try it once I'm on the computer.

Thanks a lot for the elaborated comment, Benjamin 🤗

I am glad that you liked my style of storytelling 😇

I am curious to know what you think about the tool after trying it

      1. 2

Signed up but it's asking for payment details during the trial... A personal pet peeve of mine (but I know other people aren't like this).

        1. 1

I totally understand Benjamin (also we discussed this on Twitter DM) 😇

I kept it now as I am trying to validate both my idea and pricing model.
I may change it in the future.

  12. 2

    Awesome stuff, Kazi!

    1. 1

Glad that you liked it Mike 😇

  13. 2

Seems interesting to me. But in this case, what the platform tells me is the audience that is most interested in getting involved with me. What if that's not the audience I'm interested in? For example, am I interested in reaching an audience that likes cryto, startups and technology. How to get to him?

    1. 1

That's a valid point. That's why you'll be also able to see the topics or keywords that those people normally tweet about in the "Topics" column.

That's how you don't need to dig through their timeline to determine if you are interested in them or not. Just choose to engage with people of your preferred topics 😇

Currently this feature is under construction. That's why you'll see some empty topics right now. Hoping to resolve it within next few days.

      1. 2

yes, it makes sense. best wishes for the project.

        1. 1

          Thanks man 😇

Feel free to try it out. And connect with me on Twitter if you want

  14. 2

hey, I logged in into your platform but its asking me for payment before even trial?

    1. 1

Hello Amy, really sorry for the inconvenience.

Currently the payment is managed by Gumroad and I've set a 7-day trial period there. Your payment won't be charged before that trial period ends.

You can cancel the subscription any time from Gumroad before the trial period, if you don't like the experience.

Let me know if it resolves your issue to try it out 😇

      1. 3

hmm I do not want to put my CC unless I see a demo. Do you have a demo video? I can see

        1. 1

Sure. I quickly recorded a demo video. 😇

Definitely one of those Twitter tools that aren't like the rest of them :D

    Good job!

    Good luck Kazi! 👍
