Fragrance "dupes" are a massive market, but finding a genuinely good match still meant hours digging through contradictory forum threads. I wanted to turn that into a single search.
AltScent lets you pick any of 130,000+ perfumes and get the 5 closest scent matches — ranked by how similar the opening and dry-down are, with longevity, projection, and live prices from real retailers. It works both ways: find a cheaper alternative to a designer scent, or discover the premium one a budget fragrance echoes.
A few things under the hood, since this is IH:
• Cross-platform (web, iOS, Android) via Expo / React Native, Supabase backend, edge-rendered on Cloudflare.
• Scent-matching is LLM-driven with schema-validated output, cached and refreshed lazily.
• Monetized through affiliate commissions on the buy links — no ads, no subscription, free to use.
• 8 languages.
Built solo with an AI pair-programmer — from LLC formation to app-store submission in under two months. Web is live now; iOS and Android are in store review.
Would genuinely love feedback from this community — on the product, the positioning, or go-to-market. What would make you actually use something like this?
