I built an AI book translator that rivals human quality
I’m an indie publisher who spent a decade translating my own books because I couldn’t afford professionals. I tried every machine translation tool I could find - none of them came close to being publishable, and I spent just as much time fixing their output as translating it on my own.
So I built BookTranslate.ai, a translation tool designed specifically for full books. It uses a self-correcting multi-pass processing to produce near-perfect results - requiring only small, nitpicky edits before publication.

Thank you! Yep it really is a genuine leap forward - its still in the too good to believe category 😅 It handles that nuance surprisingly well. There is a book analysis that runs before translation begins, which generates a huge set of translation instructions to the downstream AI.
The book analysis generates an entire literary analysis for the book: it creates "Overall Book Guidance" as well as something called "Authorial Stylistic Fingerprint" and section-specific instructions. These then are fed into the prompt that guides the translation and proofreading AI, so during the text processing the downstream AI has a full context and a very good idea about what kind of text it's dealing with and how to handle it.
Which LLM did u find was best at summarization?
I know gemini 2.0 flash is cheap too but not sure how it compares in quality.
Did you have to make some trade offs when picking a model?
I'm using Gemini 2.5 pro for that. Honestly even if I make it read a full book for the preprocessing, or I make it read the translated AND the original version, it's still surprisingly cheap since its an one-time API call. Unfortunately Gemini's latency is insane, takes minutes to respond, but it's still the only one with such a massive context window that it can handle this use case.
