I built an AI resume builder… and nobody used it at first

A few weeks ago I launched CVCons — the idea was simple: generate a full resume, cover letter, and portfolio with one prompt.

I expected at least some traction after launch.

Reality:
Almost zero users.

So I did what most people avoid — I asked for feedback (mainly on Reddit).

People pointed out things I completely missed:

• Confusing UX (especially template selection)

• No clear reason to trust the output

• Too many steps before seeing value

I went back, fixed those:

• Made generation faster and more obvious

• Improved the flow before first result

• Simplified how templates work

• Added better guidance in the UI

Now I’m starting to see:

• Users actually signing up

• People generating resumes (even on free plan)

• Some early positive feedback

Still far from where I want to be, but at least it’s moving.

Biggest lesson so far:
You don’t need more features — you need to understand where users get stuck.
