I finally shipped DiscoGenie, an AI that helps founders, non professional salespeople & salespeople have better discovery calls.
For years, I worked in SaaS sales, closing deals, doing discovery calls, trying to get better every week.
When I finally learned to code, I started building apps at night. But something clicked: the hardest part of tech isn’t building, it’s selling.
DiscoGenie started as a tool for myself. I wanted feedback on my own discovery calls, so I built a way to upload them and get insights.
Then my founder friends started asking for advice on their calls too.
That’s when I realized selling is still difficult, especially for new founders.
So I turned that little tool into DiscoGenie.
I’m planning to share progress here as I iterate, learn from early users, and figure out how to make sales coaching scalable.
I'm also happy to help you with your sales calls.
If you’re a builder who’s had to sell your own product I’d love to hear your experience 👇
Would this work for talking with investors? I rescheduled two calls today - granted it was with teams from Brad Blazar's and Kevin Harrington's teams - but I chickened out.
I think it could definitely help, especially around building confidence and refining how you tell your story to investors.
From a builder’s perspective though, the market might behave differently. Fundraising’s usually a one-time or short phase, unlike sales teams that have ongoing calls & budgets for performance tools. Once a founder raises, they probably wouldn’t need it again for a while.
Maybe there’s a creative way to make that work, curious to hear your thoughts. Maybe we could jam on it for a bit.
How does it specifically help with calls? Like it listens to your talk track and then writes suggestions for improvement or something?
Yeah exactly. You upload your calls into DiscoGenie, and it analyzes them to give feedback on what worked, what didn't and how to improve next time. The idea is that every sales call is an iteration of the last so instead of just reviewing a recording, you actually get insight on how to run the next one better.
Super interesting idea and defiantly something I might need in the near future - not quite at this stage yet though. Out of curiosity, what acts as the AI brain behind this? Is it your own first hand insights on how to sell saas or wider best practice?
A combo of both. I don't think I'm the end all be all in sales wisdom but I've been around the block more than most salespeople I know.
The brain is constantly iterating however. I am constantly doing micro adjustments with my calls to see what else it manages to pick up that I didn't think of originally. Every single call is different and in most calls I try something different as well. I also like to ask for experienced salespeople's opinion on certain areas of my calls. That gives me a lot of feedback for DiscoGenie.
i agree, selling is the hardest part, building is already much easier with ai
100% seems like everyone is realizing it by now or is starting to realize it. Glad I learned to program though!
This is fantastic, Carlos! 👏 Totally agree — building is hard, but selling what you build is even harder.
Love how you turned a personal pain point into a product that helps other founders too. The “upload call + get insights” approach sounds genuinely useful, especially for solo SaaS builders trying to improve fast. 🚀
Thanks for the message Shemith!
What was the hardest part about building it? Any unique AI workflows you had to figure out?
The AI can summarize or flag patterns in a call easily, but sales isn’t just about “what was said,". A lot of times how it landed really matters as well. For example, the AI might think a discovery call went well because it was polite and detailed but any salesperson can tell the buyer checked out halfway through. So I had to design a workflow where the AI does the heavy lifting (transcription, topic detection, sentiment), but the interpretation still reflects real sales context. The biggest challenge was figuring out how to translate “machine insight” into something a rep or founder would actually trust and act on.
This is really insightful. When testing early versions of my own UX audit tool, I found user feedback often shifted our priorities—features I thought were essential were rarely used. For DiscoGenie, have you discovered any surprising insights from user-uploaded calls that changed your product roadmap? Also, how are you balancing AI automation with human nuance as you scale?
Well it's tough to say. You have to listen to people utilizing it with a grain of salt. Most people enjoy the insights as it's something they wouldn't necessarily think of but something that an experienced sales person would be sniffing for immediately.
I haven't gotten much push back. If anything it's me knowing some outcomes of some calls I've had and seeing if DiscoGenie detects outcomes I already knew about.
Получается, это вариант перезвона для продвижения? А где клиентов для этого находишь?
really cool product and approach! just a quick question .... a lot of founders struggle with discovery calls because the problem isn’t just skill, but also lack of clear positioning, messaging, or understanding of the buyer’s context so how does discogenie distinguish between insights that are purely about sales technique versus insights that are about product-market fit or messaging? in other words, can it tell a founder what to sell vs. just how to sell it?
Selling is harder than building is so true. Now comes getting discogenie in front of the right founders. A targeted cold email campaign to other builders who struggle with sales calls would work. We got a new B2B SaaS tool its first 50 paying users just like that. Your on to something big with this. Happy to go for a partnership here :)
An AI tool for better discovery calls is a great idea! Getting feedback on calls is crucial for improvement, but often difficult to do objectively. How does DiscoGenie provide that feedback?
Dear Carlos, Great ideas this is yours :) We also working on BigIdeasDB. Can you check it and provide your feedback?
Sure thing
Let me know: we can pay as well if you wanna write an article for us :)

Thanks
I’ve seen the same challenge building is the fun part, but selling (especially for technical founders) is where most projects stall.
Love how you turned a personal tool into something useful for other founders that’s usually where the best products start.
Is this a tool that does AI sales calls, or how does it work?
Hi Roland, DiscoGenie let's you get feedback on your sales call that you've already had. It is not an outbound tool. You must manually upload the discovery calls into the application.
folks dont like getting called by Virtual agents...
Hi Hasan, DiscoGenie is for uploading sales discovery calls. 100% of sales discovery calls involves both parties consenting to meeting.
This is not a cold calling software or a virtual agent calling software etc.
That’s an awesome story — it perfectly captures the pain point so many technical founders face: building is exciting, but selling is the real challenge. Turning your own need into a product like DiscoGenie shows genuine founder–market fit. Love how you started from personal and evolved it based on real user demand — that’s the best kind of validation. Excited to see how you’ll scale the sales coaching side; this could genuinely change how early-stage founders approach discovery calls.
Thanks Jessica!
