Hey Indie Hackers,
Just shipped something I've been tinkering with for weeks, and I'd love your honest feedback. I call it the Photo Inspector inside VIN Inspector Pro. It's an AI tool that lets you scan used car photos for hidden damage and get instant repair estimates. No more getting burned on "budget" buys.
I got into this after watching friends, especially students scraping by, buy cheap cars that looked fine but ended up costing a fortune in fixes. Pre-purchase inspections are pricey and easy to skip, so I figured AI could fix that. Upload a few pics, and it spots dents, rust, paint issues, flood damage, and even accident flags like mismatched panels. It breaks down costs for DIY or shop repairs, and it works with the built-in VIN decoder for history and market prices.
The whole thing is 100% free, no signup required, and your photos aren't stored anywhere. Built it with GPT-4o for the vision magic, a lightweight Flask backend, and made sure it's mobile-friendly. Try the Photo Inspector here:
https://web-production-abd87.up.railway.app/ (just click it in the nav). The VIN Checker is live too for quick vehicle lookups.
This is version one, born from real frustration and a weekend build. Next up, I'm adding a negotiation calculator that crunches VIN data plus photos to suggest exact counteroffers with reasoning. Super excited about that.
What do you think? Does the damage detection feel spot-on? What other features would make this a go-to for car shoppers? Any UX tweaks or growth ideas? Fire away, I'm all ears and ready to iterate based on what the community says.
Thanks for taking a look. Appreciate you all.
