I hated waking up. Not because I'm lazy — but because every morning started with the same aggressive beeping that put me in a bad mood before the day even began.
One morning I thought: what if my alarm actually said something worth hearing? A real spoken quote — Marcus Aurelius, a Bible verse, Churchill, Jordan — in a voice that felt human. So I built Arise.
What it does:
Alarm plays a spoken motivational quote instead of a sound
- 503 quotes across Famous, Bible, Literary, and Ancient Wisdom categories
- 4 AI voices that sound real, not robotic
- Streak system tracking snooze-free mornings
- If you snooze, escalating taunts roast you for going back to bed
It uses Apple's AlarmKit API (iOS 26) so the quote plays on your lock screen — no need to open the app.
What I learned launching solo:
Nobody searches for "motivational alarm clock." They feel the dread of waking up and want mornings to suck less. The moment I stopped leading with features and started with the feeling, people got it.
The voice matters more than the words. A robotic-sounding quote kills the whole experience. Users form a connection with the voice they hear every morning.
Distribution is 90% of the work. Building was the easy part. Product Hunt, Reddit, LinkedIn — getting eyeballs is the real job.
Ship before it's perfect. v1.0 is missing features I want. But the core works and people use it. Perfect means never launching.
The numbers (honest):
