I realized I was paying for several subscriptions that I thought were useful, but I had no good way to tell whether I was actually getting enough value from them.
So I built KeepOrCut.
You enter:
Subscription name
Monthly/annual cost
How many times you used it this month
What one use is worth to you
A cheaper alternative, if there is one
KeepOrCut then calculates things like:
Cost per use
Estimated value
Value surplus
Value ratio
Break-even usage
Subscription efficiency
Potential monthly savings
Potential annual savings
A simple Keep / Cut verdict
There's also a little scenario calculator where you can change your expected monthly usage and see how the verdict changes.
The goal isn't to tell you that every expensive subscription is bad.
It's simply to make the decision a little more concrete:
“I'm paying $20/month. I use it 3 times. Is that actually worth $20 to me?”
This is very much an early version, and I'm putting it out there to see if the idea is useful beyond my own subscriptions.
I'd love feedback, especially on:
Does the concept make sense?
Are the calculations useful or are there better ways to measure subscription value?
What would make you actually use this before cancelling/keeping a subscription?
Is there a subscription you regularly debate cancelling?
Would love to hear what you think. https://keeporcut.bubbleapps.io/version-test
Everyone , I’d love to hear your feedback! If you get a chance to check it out, I’d really appreciate your thoughts — whether it’s about the idea, UX, or anything that could be improved.
I’ll make sure to reply to every comment within 24 hours. Thanks in advance for suggestions.
The concrete usage/cost framing is a strong v1. One useful next test would be a 30-day check-in: ask for expected value up front, then prompt after each use, so the “value ratio” is grounded in the user’s own outcome rather than looking more precise than it is. I’d also separate monthly vs annual billing and add cancellation friction—those can matter as much as cost per use when deciding whether to keep a subscription.
! I’ve implemented the parts that fit the current v1 without making the app more complex:
Added t
Added cancellation difficulty as a decision context
Made the Value Ratio explicitly an “Estimated Value Ratio” so it doesn’t imply more precision than the inputs justify
I’m keeping the 30-day check-in idea in mind as a potential next step.
Really liked the point about making the numbers more grounded in the user’s actual experience. 🙌
Thanks for taking the time to share your feedback! Really appreciate you checking it out and sharing your thoughts 🙌
