I built LUMI: see your room’s makeover before you buy anything

Hey Indie Hackers 👋

I’ve been through the same loop way too many times: you want to refresh a room, move into an empty apartment, or stage a listing… but you can’t really picture the “after” without spending hours (or money) measuring, modeling, and bouncing between moodboards.

So I built LUMI, an AI room planner that turns a real room photo into realistic “before → after” redesigns in minutes.

What LUMI does (in plain terms)

  1. Upload a room photo

  2. Pick a room type + style (or keep the original structure)

  3. Add/replace furniture — including your own custom furniture images

  4. Generate photoreal outputs you can compare and iterate

What makes it different (vs. generic interior “AI generators”)

  • Works from real photos and aims to keep geometry believable

  • Furniture add-ons (including custom pieces) to test actual items

  • Watermark-free exports on paid plans

  • 2K / 4K output and custom sizes for presentations & listings

  • Optional higher-quality model mode for cleaner results

Who it’s for

  • Moving into a new place and want to plan quickly

  • Refreshing a bedroom/living room without full renovation

  • Realtors / Airbnb hosts doing fast staging concepts

  • Designers needing quick moodboard + layout variations to align with clients

I’d love your feedback

If you try it, I’m especially curious about:

  • Does it keep the “feel” of the original room well enough?

  • Which step feels slow/confusing?

  • What would make you trust the output for a real purchase decision?

Happy to answer anything about the build, models, or workflow.
