I built my first digital product called Mind Sanctuary. It's a mental health app that allows you to track your moods in a log and see how they change in a calendar. It also allows you to take psychometric tests like depression and personality tests to give more insight into your health.
I'm mainly an engineer so I don't know much about product/market fit, marketing, or how to get my first users. Any feedback or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Do as they say: spend 50% of your time on building (caveat: if you know exactly what you are doing, as opposed to probing the waters) and 50% on marketing.
The mental health market is huge, complex, and demanding. First, be clear if your app is truly a health app (regulated) or a wellness app. Look up the Stigma podcast with Stephen Hays, he listed close to 1000 apps in this space, there should be a link to the list on their site.
I am interested in MH space, too. I am doing deep dive into the market trying to find interesting subspaces that could be indie-hacked, specific smart problems waiting to be solved. It is a slog. I've got another wild personal idea (for MH space) but I am afraid I won't be able to pull it off due to the fact it is too fuzzy and open-ended.
That's exactly what I was doing, 50% building and 50% marketing but I've reached a point where I'm not sure what to build or what users want as I don't really have any active users.
You're right, it should probably be considered a wellness app as it's not clinical or regulated. I'll definitely check out the Stigma podcast, thanks for sharing that.
Diving into the MH space and market is what I'm doing to. Trying to figure out what users are looking for and how I can differentiate my product from competitors. It feels like a difficult niche to break into. I'd love to hear your idea, but totally up to you if you want to share.
Look up this fresh thread. Maybe you should pause making new features, you have enough to attract interest, and start connecting to users and probing them for directions.
Hey!
If it is not your primary field, just keep it simple, don't overthink it.
You probably started the development of this app because somebody you know is struggling with their mental health (which we all do actually), why don't just send it to him/her?
Grab some coffee, meet your friends and show them how it works. Perhaps the first step to improve the mood of everybody.
Congrats!
