Hi everyone,
I’m an indie iOS developer and photographer, and I built SunPath to solve a problem I personally experienced.
When planning photography, I often arrived on location without knowing exactly where the sun would be. This made it difficult to anticipate shadows, plan compositions, or catch the right light.
Existing tools were either too complex, desktop-focused, or not designed for fast mobile use in the field.
So I built SunPath.
It lets you visualize the sun’s path anywhere on earth, see golden hour and blue hour, and plan light with precision.
What started as a personal tool became something others found useful too — not just photographers, but also architects, real estate professionals, and solar planners.
Building and shipping it solo taught me a lot — especially that distribution is harder than development.
The technical part is finite. Getting users is the real challenge.
If anyone is curious, I’d be happy to share more about the development, positioning, or launch process.

Love this — super clear problem and very real use case.
Totally agree on distribution being the harder part after building.
Curious how you’re planning to validate and grow beyond initial users?
Also, if you ever want to test real willingness (not just interest), there’s an interesting setup where you can put your idea into a live competition ($19 entry, winner gets a Tokyo trip, prize pool grows with entries). Could be a fun way to gauge actual commitment.
Curious - what tech stack are you using?
