Some background: there's a genre of Reddit post where someone jokingly proposes the worst app idea they can think of, everyone laughs, thread dies. The one that got me was a guy who wanted an app to log every time his partner forgot to turn off the lights - pure evidence-gathering, built for the sole purpose of winning arguments with a spreadsheet.
Everyone in the comments agreed it was unhinged. Nobody should build this.
I built this.
Well, a version of it. PettyPoints keeps the "keeping receipts" energy but strips out the part where you're building a legal case against your roommate. You log stuff (dishes, "I'll do it later", the classics), the other person can dispute it, and if you genuinely can't agree, it goes to a jury of 3 friends who vote blind over a browser link. No subscription - one person buys, the other plays free, because charging two people to argue with each other felt like a step too far even for this app.
The part I didn't see coming: building something that requires two people to actually use it is a completely different problem than every other solo app I've shipped. One person downloading it and loving it isn't a win. Two people have to buy in, which means the whole thing lives or dies on "would I actually send this to my partner," not "is this useful."
So - genuine question for anyone who's built a two-sided/multiplayer product solo: how did you get past that first-pair problem? Did you find your first few "pairs," or did it grow more organically once one side committed?
The “one download isn’t a win” part changes the problem quite a bit.
Have you seen anyone successfully bring the second person in yet, or are you still waiting for the first pair to form without your involvement?
Technically I am still waiting for first pair as I just launched. Its one of those things where you 2X downloads if it works else it would be desert filled with tumbling bundles of weed.... I am curious if you were able to find a solution or different angle to tackle this?
Also, I would really appreciate it if you can share any first impression feedbacks on the app.
Thank you
That’s helpful context. I appreciate you being open about where the product is at this stage.
I’d like to continue the conversation outside the thread. What’s the best email to reach you on?
