I can't explain this traffic spike...can you?

So weird question to the growth hacker crew. I recently added small Call to Action buttons (and banners) on every blog post I've been writing (based on some suggestions someone gave here). I currently write about 4 a week. And suddenly, in the last 96 hours the traffic on our sign up form has sky-rocketed.

But I'm skeptical...

I wasn't LOADING the urls, only adding them as links to wordpress pages. So the 'loaded a page event' shouldn't really trigger, and show up in mixpanel. But something is firing that event like crazy now.

Does anyone know why this might happen? Does using the Google Campaign URL builder, when you copy a url, perhaps it triggers an event? That might explain it...

I can't work it out. Or maybe my effort just... you know. worked...

  • the blue line is 'loaded a page - filtered by url, and that one blue line is the sign up form'
  • chart is from the last 96 hours

Did your signups increase as well? If yes, you can try to contact the new users and ask them how they found you. Something similar happened to my SolarWatch recently as well. I only found out that Apple featured it in an email by asking new users.

It's had no impact on signups. So our funnel has gone from 5% to 2.5% from the spike. My brother seems to think its bots clicking on the ads but I'm not convinced.
