I chose a boring niche SaaS instead of chasing trends. Here’s what surprised me.

I’ve been building a small SaaS for Pilates, yoga, and wellness studios.

It’s not flashy. No AI hype. No viral loops. Just scheduling, bookings, and reminders.

What surprised me most wasn’t the tech — it was how much time founders spend solving the wrong problems.

Before building anything, I talked to dozens of studio owners. Most weren’t asking for more features. They were overwhelmed by:

  • WhatsApp bookings

  • no-shows

  • tools built for huge gyms, not small studios

  • spending more time on admin than teaching

The hardest part hasn’t been building the product — it’s been saying no to features that sound impressive but don’t actually reduce friction.

A few lessons so far:

  • Boring businesses have very clear pain

  • Small customers care more about defaults than customization

  • “Easy to set up” matters more than “powerful”

  • SEO and niche landing pages outperform generic marketing

  • Trust beats growth hacks every time

Still early, still learning, but choosing a narrow niche forced clarity I never had on broader products.

Curious if others here have gone niche-first instead of horizontal — what surprised you?
