I compared Product Hunt, Solvearn, and YC's co-founder matching before building my own thing. Here's what I found.

Before building Startives, I spent a few weeks actually using the platforms most indie hackers default to when they want visibility or a co-founder. Wanted to share what I found, partly because I think a lot of us waste time on the wrong tool for the wrong stage — and partly because I'd love this community's take on whether I'm missing something.

Product Hunt is still the best place for a launch-day spike. If you've got a following or a good hunter, you can get real traffic in 24 hours. But that's basically it — the visibility window is short, and a week later your product is buried and essentially undiscoverable through the platform itself. It's a launch tool, not a discovery tool.

Solvearn is aimed more at people assembling a small team from scratch — task cards, roles, meeting scheduling. Decent if you're starting from zero with an idea and need to build a team around it. Less useful if you've already got something shipped and want ongoing visibility or inbound interest, since discovery outside your own shared links is pretty limited.

YC's co-founder matching has real brand weight and has produced legit pairings, no argument there. But it's clearly built for people already tracking toward a fundable, YC-shaped startup. If you're a solo builder shipping side projects without a clear VC narrative yet, it doesn't really fit — there's no public profile, no story, just a matching form.

What I kept running into: none of these give you a permanent place for your project's story that stays discoverable after the initial spike, while also being open to people who aren't chasing a YC-track startup. Product Hunt fades fast, Solvearn is team-formation focused, YC is narrow by design.

That gap is why I built Startives — basically a permanent profile for your project (the actual story, not just a listing) plus a way for other builders to reach out based on that story rather than an upvote count or a match algorithm. No launch-day countdown, no "product of the day" mechanic — the page just stays up and stays searchable.

Still early and would genuinely like feedback from this community:

Where do you currently go when you want visibility for something you've already shipped, not just launch buzz?

Does "permanent showcase" actually solve a problem for you, or does it just become another directory nobody revisits?

Happy to share more about what I built or why, if useful. Would rather hear the pushback than the compliments at this stage.
