I completed the task. One hidden requirement still cost my business an estimated $51,600.

I used to believe the greatest inbox risk was an email you never opened.

I was wrong.

I opened an important Department of Developmental Services email.

I completed one portion of the required QIP survey.

Then I mentally marked the whole responsibility as finished.

Another required portion remained open.

The deadline passed before I understood what was still incomplete.

The estimated impact was approximately 5% of revenue.

Around $4,300 every month.

Approximately $51,600 over 12 months.

The lesson was not:

Check your inbox more often.

I was already checking it.

The deeper problem was believing that a partially completed responsibility was fully resolved.

That experience helped shape FounderFlow.

We are building it to help founders identify messages connected to revenue, compliance, deadlines, risk and unfinished commitments.

Not simply to organise messages.

I would genuinely value feedback from other founders:

What is the most important email you nearly missed, or believed you had already handled?

The part that stands out is that you didn’t miss the email — you acted on it and still believed the responsibility was finished.

With FounderFlow, how are you thinking about knowing that an underlying commitment is actually complete, rather than just knowing the founder opened, replied to, or acted on the message?

That is the exact distinction we are trying to design around. Right now it looks for a second signal beyond action taken, a follow up confirming closure, a status change, a deadline that quietly passes with nothing attached to close it. If none of those show up after a reply goes out, it stays flagged as open instead of getting marked resolved. The harder cases are ones like mine, a multi part requirement where one piece looks finished and hides that another piece is not. Have you run into a task that reopened later after you had already closed it in your head?

I have, and that’s partly why your approach caught my attention.

There’s more I’d like to discuss around this than makes sense in the thread. What’s the best email to reach you on?

hello@founderflowhq.ai works well. Happy to go deeper on the multi part requirement problem there, it is close to the core of what we are building.

Thanks! I’ve just sent it over.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts whenever you have a chance.
