I copied beamer modal window...and I get roasted :-(

So guys I desperately need your opinion!

I launched producthero.app on PH (https://www.producthunt.com/posts/producthero) with new designed landing page, where I just copied (since I fall in love with it!) the modal used by getbeamer.com.

I get totally roasted by this guy blaming me about ripping off the whole beamer app (even if it's only the modal!), whose comment were upvoted 6 times (see PH page).

What do you think? Should I still let as it is or should I change it?? Is it so bad?

I think it's fine. No reason to change anything IMO. There's always going to be someone, roasting you for a similar design to someone else. Don't see anyone complaining about LinkedIn / Facebook etc being similar lol. There's plenty of products out there that look like others. Personally I think you do it better than Beamer.

oh thank you! I was thinking the same but wasn't sure. Now I feel better. Thanks!

FB copied literally the best feature of Snapchat - the stories. You are worrying about a modal? These things are very common and the guy is probably just afraid that you might take away his market share. Also your's is better than Beamer with different categories and light/dark theme.

I don't have all of the context here, but in general exact copying is frowned upon, though using a lot of the main concepts of a successful design is applauded.

Think of it like music. If an artist literally copied someone else's song, that's plagiarism. If they sample an aspect of the song and mix up the rest of it, it's typically seen as a new thing.
