I'm always trying to get more and more done each week, and stay on track.
A startup buddy of mine last year invited me to an accountability group with him and a few other guys, and we would state our goals on Mondays and then update each other during the week and encourage each other, and on Fridays we'd say what we had gotten done.
It was a great group... at first. Slowly the group got quieter and quieter until one week it was just me declaring my goals, and then updating myself on my progress...
The following week, I went to an in-person networking group and they were trying to recruit new members. It was a cool group, but it was $400 a month and just not something I could or wanted to spend that much money on.
But it clicked after that group, that people only value what they pay for.
The previous accountability group was free. No one took it seriously enough. No one had skin in the game.
So I tweeted out that I was going to start a PAID accountability group.
Quickly, six people were interested.
I settled on $50 a month (not too much at all, but enough that you cared more about it) and set it up as a Slack group (it's what I wanted personally, as an ex IRC addict). And I got five paying members! Plus I'm in there of course, so it's a good core group of founders.
There are times I specifically hit my goals because I'd have to tell the group otherwise that I did not.
Even this post was on my goals for the week, and here I am on Friday afternoon, trying to get it done.
The group helps founders focus on their goals for the week and actually hit it. Simple but powerful.
And I've made more from it than other projects that I spent way more time on... All I did was start a slack, promote it in my network, and create a simple landing page https://yep.so/p/startup-accountability-group
TLDR: I made an accountability group and charge for it, and it helps myself and a few other founders!
