I created an automated competitors tracking tool for startups

Hello Indie Hackers!

Almost every company that I've worked for has always used Notion or Google Docs to manually track their competitors. Once I started working on my own startup, I quickly realized that it's pretty tedious to try to keep an eye on my competitors and keep all the data updated manually.

RivalHunt is designed to empower startups in tracking their competitors effortlessly. It offers:

⭐️ Real-time updates on competitors' website changes, such as pricing updates, team modifications, and feature releases.
⭐️ Free plan for all indie hackers who just want to keep their eye on few the most close competitors.
⭐️ Stay informed about competitors' latest social media posts across Twitter, Facebook, and Reddit.
⭐️ Access the most recent Crunchbase data on competitors, including funding rounds, acquisitions, and team alterations.
⭐️ Customizable update frequencies to suit your monitoring needs.

You can access the tool here: rivalhunt.co

This is a great tool for people who don't want to the pay the massive fees for things like Semrush etc. how do you list the companies? Would love to run it for my projects but they'e projects, not companies

Hey man, I love the design, we might be able to use this or find a partnership!

If you're free I would love to jump on a quick call and chat more,

Love this concept and the LP design, and it would be more than nice if it's equipped with G2, Capterra or B2B review site monitoring.
A competitive analysis often ends with "so what?", so it should be helpful if customers can get the gist of what to do next after comparison or analysis.

    1. 1

Thanks! Yes, I already have some idea for "Next Steps" or "Suggestions" feature that should answer the question "so what?". It requires more data so I'm focusing on connecting more sources right now to provide better suggestions later on. I appreciate the feedback!

love this @semanser. it would be even more useful if there was some SEO data available too, like Page Authority or SemRush rank

    1. 1

Thank you! Yeah, I was thinking about integrating SEO data as well. There are some many sources of potential data that can be helpful but it's important to make the UI/UX adjustable (not everyone needs SEO data!) to make sure that the product isn't too crowded. Maybe adjustable columns? Need a bit more time to think about it. Thanks for the suggestion!

Loved the concept and what it can bring, once you establish the update flow, the next step to me would be how those updates can transform in something actionable to the user.

    1. 2

yeah, some actionable suggestions would be nice. It can be pretty complicated tho since there are tons of possible ways improve your metrics and I don't think there can be a single silver-bullet suggestion that is helpful to every product.

I think it can be pretty cool tho to show how do you compare to each of your competitors. And based on that, each user can do their own conclusions (eg, "looks like our twitter is growing x3 slower than their, time to change that!")

which technologies did you use for?

    1. 2

      Design: Figma, Untitled UI
Website: Astro, Tally (forms), almost no JS, just pure HTML/CSS, Vercel.
      Product: React, golang, postgres, GCP.

Requested early access. Excited to try this!

Looks great. By any chance did you get UI inspiration from mixpanel's dashboard? Asking because it feels familiar to it.

    1. 2

I didn't :) I used Figma + Untitled UI for almost everything UI product related.

  12. 1

Looks helpful. I will try it soon for my startup.

  13. 1

This is pretty cool congrats! It's probably outside of your scope right now, but something I always found tedious to do is competitors benchmark. Like going inside a competitor product, and checking how they do a specific feature. I'd love to find a tool that does that automatically.

    1. 2

Interesting idea! I think a quick way of doing it would be to simply make screenshots of every internal screen of a competitor. Not on the roadmap, but pretty interesting feature. Thanks!

  14. 1

Cool job, How is it coming along Did you get good feedback?

    1. 1

Thanks! Yes, the initial response and feedback was very nice. I'm going to share detailed stats in a new post on IH soon.

RivalHunt appears to be an effective rival tracking tool, providing real-time data on numerous characteristics of your competitors. The free plan for indie hackers is a fantastic incentive, making it affordable to entrepreneurs on a tight budget. The inclusion of social media monitoring and Crunchbase data access deepens competitor analysis. Customizable update frequencies offer versatility. Overall, it appears to be a useful tool for keeping competitive and informed in the startup environment. "How does RivalHunt ensure the accuracy of its data on competitor website changes and other updates?"

      GPT...is that you....?

  17. 1

Looks great! How are you planning to acquire your first users?

    1. 2

Thanks! The tool has Free plan for indie hackers so it will probably be my initial target. Also, I'm planning to build in public (to gain more visibility across indie community) and use Twitter to attract new potential customers.

Awesome tool, when it works as shown on the website. Love the clear & professional landing page! To get off the ground you can also try to:

        • Partner with Accelerators and other startup programs. Simply offer them a free plan for 1 year
        • Proactively write companies with updates about their competitors (provide value before the sale)
-> Could maybe even be automatised with AgentGPT searching competitors

        Wish you all the best!
