When I started working with a SaaS software dev company, their domain rating was 42. Organic traffic was inconsistent and they were invisible for any meaningful keywords.
12 months later: DR 57, doubled organic sessions.
Here's what worked and what didn't.
What worked:
Fixing technical foundations first. Crawl issues, indexing problems, schema errors. Nobody wants to hear this but you genuinely cannot rank a broken site. This alone took 2 months.
Content built around what their buyers actually search, not what sounded good in a brainstorm. Big difference.
Building topical authority in one niche before expanding. Most SaaS sites try to rank for everything and end up ranking for nothing.
What didn't work:
Publishing blog posts without a distribution plan. I wrote into the void for about 3 months before course correcting. Painful lesson.
Chasing high volume keywords too early. Long-tail first, then move up. Always.
The honest truth:
SEO for SaaS is slow for the first 3 months and then it compounds. Most founders give up right before it starts working.
Happy to answer any questions. What's been your biggest SEO challenge so far?
I've also seen a lot of companies fail because they went for what sounds nice and what they think works. Real growth comes from understanding the buyer's pain well enough to explain solutions in their own language, not what you think works
Great breakdown. Technical SEO foundations are often the biggest hidden growth lever for SaaS. I’ve seen many sites struggle because they focus on content before fixing crawlability, indexing, and performance issues. Tools like SERPSpur can help identify SEO problems, monitor site health, and make data-driven improvements before scaling content.

That's really interesting and it's exactly what I'm going through right now...I've built an app with some friends and started to promote it writing some blog posts that nobody actually reads! :D
How did you actually fix it?
