Hi, I'm Uğur KILCI, entrepreneur and content creator. I have a startup called Girişimzel. I made a small change on the 404 page. How do you think it happened? :)
https://www.girisimzel.com/404
Edit (1.5.2022): Would you subscribe to my newsletter? https://www.girisimzel.com/newsletter
The reason due to the slowness is because the images of the hands are more than 1000 pixels wide. Reduce them with Photoshop to 200 px wide, to all of them. Then go to tinypng.com and reduce them there. With those 2 steps you'll go from 60 KB to 5 KB per image and the game will be extremely fast.
You're right. And I immediately took action and did as he said. You can look. :)
I've tried on incognito mode and now it load completely instantly!
Super :)
Although really epic and I enjoyed playing the game, remember that people arrived on that page because they were in search of something else on your website.
I would definitely include maybe a search bar at a minimum so they can also search the contents of your website to try to find whatever it is they are looking for.
In the end, you want to create happy customers and not just people playing rock, paper, scissors right?
To tell the truth my site isn't connected to a database. That's why it doesn't make sense to put a search box. But I know a search box is an intuitive thing. I'm thinking of solving this in an intuitive way without the search box. I haven't come up with an idea yet. Do you have an idea? I would love to hear.
Maybe have a look at your Google Analytics, what the top five most popular pages on your site are, and link to those?
“did you mean to go to any of these popular destinations?”
Yes, I did what you said. But I added a little something. If the user wins the game, I direct him to the newsletter. If it loses, I redirect it to popular pages. And at the bottom of the page, I list content that might be of interest to you. :)
Nice one, now it is BOTH fun and brings value 💪
This wouldn't have happened without your contribution 😇
#teamworkmakesthedreamwork
Wow, I overlooked that. I'm taking action right away. Thank you. I'll let you know when it's done. :)
No worries and good luck with the rest of the business! 💪
Awesome. Instead of putting a subscribe button that takes me to another landing page, can you directly put a revue subscribe box? I am sure it will increase conversion.
I did what you said. Let's see if they subscribe :)
Nice
I'm glad you like it
This is too fun!
Thank you 🤗 I will share this in my newsletter this week :)
https://girisimzel.com/newsletter
😊
Nicely done!
The call to action is a genius idea!
it reminds me of one of my friends who gets featured on kotaku for his 404
https://www.romainbrasier.fr/404/
Thank you. :) 69 people opened umbrellas. :D It's a nice site.
Looks fantastic, may the animation is too fast, but excellent.
Thank you. :) It looked like it was losing fps when I lowered the animation by 1 second. It was advancing squarely.
I love it! That's awesome hahahahah
Thank you :) I am glad you like it. Would you subscribe to the Newsletter? :) https://www.girisimzel.com/newsletter
Great idea, love the way you did it.
Firstly thank you. Would you subscribe to the Newsletter? :) https://www.girisimzel.com/newsletter
Yep :)
This is incredible. Love the illustration style.
Firstly, thank you. But the drawing isn't mine. I found on the internet. I edited a little. That is all. :)
Hah, love it. It's the little things that make us remember!
Nice idea! It would be great to see how many emails you are able to collect just because of that, but also how often people are actually landing on the 404 error page.
I wish I could say I've collected 100 emails for you. People use it and appreciate it. But so far, no one has saved his email. I don't understand why. Why do you think it would be?
Alright, thanks for sharing. Well my assumption is that you'd ideally want to minimise the traffic to your 404 as it means your website is leading to wrong pages. Altho your 404 page is quite unique, there could be some cool to way to advertise it somehow :)
As the thinking time increases, you realize many pros and cons. Over time, it will reach perfection by adding and subtracting it. :)
That is fun!
Thank you :)
This is pretty cool man! Great idea adding a game to keep the user hook.
And, not leave the site.
Thank you, dude. This really motivated me. I have more ideas in mind. I will do one each week. You must subscribe to the Girişimzel weekly newsletter. :)

No problem! I did.
Lets do our best to achieve our dreams/goals
Love it! Fun 404 pages are my favourite. The one I did for UpDog isn't interactive but I think it's hilarious: https://www.updog.marketing/404
Comic. I love this :)
This is indeed awesome! As a suggestion, you could add more padding to improve the looks of it. @ugurkilci
404 pages and also the console of developer tools can be used in interesting ways to communicate your brand.
I did this too on my personal website https://www.alex-eble.de/notfound (also mind the console). Would love to hear your feedback!
This is the first time I see such a thing. Creative idea. :) It might be interesting to leave notes on the console on different pages.
For example, in the console of the admin panel, "Knock knock knock! Who is it? I'm a hacker." Writing can be fun. :D
I don't mind looking at the console on the 404 page. But you can say "don't look at the console" to the page. People wonder and look. :D It says "didn't I tell you not to look at you? :D" on the console. :DDDD
Funny ideas! I agree that you probably won't look on the console while being on the 404 page. The log on my website of course displays on any page. :-)
Hi @ugurkilci, i loved it. I am also working on a new app. Is there any possibility you could teach me how you did this. I would also like to have the same rock paper scissors on my 404 page. Looking forward to hearing from you. You got a fan today :)
First off, I'm glad you liked it. :) My area of expertise is the web, but it also works in applications. I coded it myself, but there are many alternatives on the internet. You can look directly at their algorithms. :)

Also, being a fan made me feel valued 🤗
COOL 🤗
😎
Lol i love it!
(I won on my first try 😎)
He's exciting to be talking to a champion :) I'm glad you like it :)
The great part is that I appreciate your real website’s content even better than the 404 page (it is awesome though)!
Nit: Add a “s” to all the homepage titles as “Movies” sounds more natural to me than “Movie”
I thought of this before too. "movies" for "movie" is fine. But I thought it might be a problem since there are no "documentaries" for "documentarys". I just did a Twitter poll about it. https://twitter.com/ugur2nd/status/1519982481516212224
I loved it. I sent it to my friends. I've never seen anything like this. You are crazy. 😂
Super 🥳 You are crazier because you made this comment. Talking takes courage. :)
Haha nice one, I love finding Easter eggs like this.
I've loved easter eggs for as long as I can remember. Many of my products have easter eggs. I can prove it to you. :) When I wait for a while on the menu page of a game I made 6 years ago, an easter egg appears :D I added a few more but I don't remember :D

This reminds me of the dinosaur game that Google shows you when Chrome is off-line
here's a clone of it: https://chromedino.com/
I didn't even know there was such a site. A lot of ideas came to my mind thanks to this comment. Thank you.
404 pages are an amazing way to showcase your brand's creativity and presence. When you are tweaking the copy in an application to improve your user's experience, that practice is technically called UX Writing.
The profession is just starting to gain steam, but you don't need to hire anyone to do it well in your SaaS. Just spend a few days thinking about your empty states, error messages, warnings, ect. and tweaking the copy and images. I promise it'l demonstrate to your users that your thinking about the small details of their experience, and that will translate to customers who think highly of your work (assuming the rest of the product is solid, UX copy can't fix the fundamentals of the product, unfortunately).

haha, interesting. it attracted me 4 times to see if you are using random or hardcoded logic.
😂 You can be sure it works randomly. As you said, I thought about putting a memory inside, etc. but I didn't. 😃

It was a simple and very effective idea. Congratulations. 👏
Feedback: Share your site link when posting on Indie Hackers. In this way, users enter your site and can make their first acquaintance with your product. 128 people entered my site yesterday only from IH. It's a tremendous feeling. :)

I tested it as you said. It loads a little slow. What would you recommend for this?

Javascript can be lazy-loaded. I reduced the width of the pictures with the suggestion of @Fabri. 100px. With + tinypng.com their size has dropped to less than 3KB. In this case, do I still need a lazy load? 🤔

You are the second person to say this. I'm starting work right away. I'll let you know. :)

Dude, I implemented your suggestion. It looks super. What do you think? Your thoughts are important to me. :)
