Over the last few months, I started noticing something that didn’t make sense. Some websites that were clearly well-optimized good SEO, solid content, clean structure weren’t being mentioned by AI assistants like ChatGPT or Perplexity at all. Meanwhile, smaller competitors sometimes were.
At first I assumed it was randomness or missing data. But the more I looked, the more it felt like AI was operating on a different set of signals than traditional SEO.What stood out was that AI seemed to hesitate when it couldn’t confidently explain what a site actually does in a simple, declarative way.SEO tools didn’t really help answer this, so I started treating it like an experiment trying to understand how AI interprets websites rather than how search engines rank them. It’s still early, but this completely changed how I think about “visibility” going forward.just sharing something that surprised me while building.
Congrats on the launch! Out of curiosity, which analytics metric ended up being the biggest eye-opener for you, retention, activation, or something unexpected?
