Hi all,
My first post on the building in public page and I wanted to share my story about how I failed a launch on ProductHunt but it didn’t equate to a failed product!
A little back story, I am Rohan, the founder of https://www.rohan-malhotra.com/ and https://roflow.co/. I became Hong Kong's first Webflow expert and one of the world's youngest Webflow Experts at 19 years old.
So what happened?
From April to July we at RoFlow built 12-templates-12-weeks which were 12 free templates for SaaS's all built in Webflow and fully customisable to whichever project it is that you're working on. Posting on Facebook, Twitter and Webflow Forums. Over that time we achieved some pretty good results:
Total clones to date: 286
Total likes to date: 106
Total building hours saved to date: 544 hours
About the launch:
Even with some good results, we didn't get our desired launch on ProductHunt. We got a rock solid 4 upvotes on our launch date and didn't even reach the threshold to get featured. Now is it a bad thing? Yes and no...
"Yes" in the sense that the traffic coming in was much less than expected and "no" in the sense that it isn't our main product, it was made to help companies and individuals who want to take the plunge into Webflow do it with ease.
Is it the be-all and end-all of 12-templates-12-weeks:
Not at all, 12-templates-12-weeks was an internal project and with our current numbers, it seems to be doing well and helping people out when/where they need it.
We plan on launching more templates and working closely with the community for feedback and needs to better equip to-be founders in building a rock-solid online presence.
A closing note:
From our experience of launching and failing it is important to realise that it isn't the end of your product. If you truly believe that your product is better than what is on offer out there then keep going and market in other ways.
Keep building and keep killing the game 🤘
I think a big part of being successful on PH is to have a community ready to give you upvotes to get you through the hard first part
Well said, it sucks that having people come in and upvote is the norm but alas
I'm sorry to hear that you failed your product launch. However, I'm sure that the product itself is not a failure. There are many factors that can contribute to a failed launch, and it's important to remember that the product itself is not necessarily to blame. I'm sure you'll be able to learn from this experience and be successful in the future.
