I’m building a small Windows app called Rootlize for local image workflows.
After talking with a lot of people who work with images, I’ve found some recurring pain around things like organizing batches, renaming, matching images to product or variant context, moving files, and repeating the same steps over and over.
So the problem itself feels real.
What I’m struggling with now is getting from “this sounds useful” to someone actually using Rootlize on one real task.
I’ve had people describe detailed workflows, show interest, and even download the prototype, but I still don’t have a clear case where someone used it to complete a real piece of work and then came back to use it again.
I think part of the mistake was asking people to “try the app” instead of asking them to try solving one specific task with me.
So I’m changing the approach to something smaller:
one real problem
one small real batch
one task
see where Rootlize helps and where it fails
For people who have been through this stage before, how did you get from early interest to the first few people actually using your product for real work?
I’m especially interested in what worked before you had much social proof or trust.
Your shift from “try the app” to “solve one real task with me” feels exactly right. In Speechara.Ai we are watching the same gap between a signup and a first useful session. What is the one image task you plan to use as the first benchmark for Rootlize?
Thanks, that’s exactly what I’m trying to narrow down now.
I don’t think the first benchmark needs to be tied to one industry yet. What I want to prove is that someone can take a real task they currently do around local image files and run it end to end through Rootlize.
That could mean finding a specific set of images, grouping or organizing them, moving or renaming files, and eventually handing the result off to another tool or service.
So the benchmark for me is less “did they use this feature?” and more “did Rootlize actually complete one piece of real work they normally do manually?”
Shopify image batches are one promising example, but I’m trying to validate the broader workflow first.
What are you using as the first useful session for Speechara?
This is an interesting shift, R. Once you move from “try the app” to one real task, I think the harder question becomes what that task actually needs to prove for you before you treat the result as meaningful evidence. Otherwise even a successful task can leave the bigger product decision unresolved.
