When I started my business a few years ago, I decided to try leveraging LinkedIn to drive growth rather than buying ads. At first it was intimidating - I didn't have some polished corporate brand, and I worried my posts would seem amateur-ish.
But I quickly learned a few key lessons:
- Just start posting. Don't obsess over perfection. My early posts definitely had issues with grammar or rambling thoughts. But I realized that I was still seeing a slow but steady stream of clicks and follows. The more I practiced posting, the better I got at understanding what resonated with my audience.
- Ask for the sale. One recent post was about a $10k coaching program I offered. On a whim I included a CTA at the bottom. Within days I had 3 people enroll out of the blue! Now I always include some type of call to action.
- Vary content length. I used to think every post had to be some epic 500 word "thought leadership" piece. But sometimes my simple photo quotes would blow up while my long essays barely got noticed. Now I switch it up.
- Skip the links. I learned quickly that links tank your post's reach on LinkedIn. So now I mention resources but don't link them.
Over 3 years I grew from 0 to over 450k in revenue, using LinkedIn as my main customer acquisition channel. It wasn't easy but sticking with it paid off hugely.
For any founders out there wanting to improve their personal branding, I'd also recommend checking out StoryMage (https://www.storymage.ai/). Their AI can help craft compelling posts and messaging that really connects with your audience.
