TL;DR:
I launched getarounditaly.com, a free online guide about Italy. This is what I learned:

  1. Your competitors’ strategies might not work for you
  2. It takes time, more than you think it will take
  3. Grow, but create your small user base first
  4. Be consistent and patient

    #1 - I can relate to it
#4 - Consistency matters more than the actual output. In a way that it's better to do many tiny things regularly than one huge thing without any regularity to it

#1 - what are you working on or what did you work on when you realized that?

#4 - it's very important to keep going, also a small thing can be a small step further.

Great advice. I think the first one is so important as people often look to others for 'answers' when really we all need to look internally and figure out the strategies that work for us.

Definitely! At the beginning, I wanted to take the "lazy" approach: looking at similar websites and just copy their strategies on user acquisition. But it definitely didn't work and I had to be creative. I think this applies most of the companies: you have to find your own way!
