About a week ago I came to the IH community with some questions about my new landing page for a custom meal planning product called Slice (getslice.co). By the way big thanks to everyone who responded to that post, I sat down and went through all the feedback individually to reorganize and reword my copy.
Tomorrow, I’m planning on launching the service and I got my first five users in one of the (probably) easiest ways: I tweeted at them.
Basically, I searched for possible substitutes/competitors for my product in Twitter and scrolled through tons of tweets about Blue Apron, Hello Fresh, etc. If they were disgruntled or on edge about the product, I slid into the dms, introduced myself and personally asked them to see what getslice.co is about. This took about 20 mins and soon people were responding to know more.
And that’s the story of how I got my first five users. It doesn't take much and its not scalable to acquire this way, but it's a start. Just don't be spammy about it. If you truly are genuine to learn more about potential customers, this is an overlooked, easy, first step for any new idea, side project or startup.
What other easy ways have you acquired users for little-to-no cost?
