I got my product into a newsletter with 1M+ subscribers. Here's what it actually did

Last week SlimSnap, a small Mac dev tool I built solo, got picked up in the Product Hunt newsletter that goes to over a million subscribers. I thought that was the moment.

It wasn't. A million eyeballs turned into a modest handful of downloads. I'm not complaining, it's free reach, I'll take it. But it reset my mental model: impressions aren't installs. A giant general list is mostly people with no use for a niche tool, so the conversion floor is low no matter how big the number looks. The downloads that actually stuck came from narrow places where the right people already hang out, not the big blast.

Curious if others have hit the same, a big feature or newsletter that looked huge and converted like a whisper? Where did your real users actually come from?
