I got tired of manually reading app reviews, so I built AppRoast

While validating product ideas, I got tired of digging through endless App Store and Google Play reviews just to answer simple questions:

• Why are users suddenly unhappy?
• What complaints keep showing up over and over?
• Why does Android hate us while iOS loves us? 😅
• What are competitors consistently getting wrong?

Reading reviews manually across iOS and Android (for your own app and competitors) gets painful fast.

So I built AppRoast.

AppRoast analysis of WhatsApp reviews showing iOS vs Android ratings, AI-generated roast summary, and sentiment breakdown based on App Store & Google Play reviews.

Paste any app and get an instant AI-powered roast based on real App Store & Google Play reviews.

The goal is simple: understand app feedback without manually reading hundreds of repetitive reviews.

Right now AppRoast helps surface:

🔥 Why users hate the app — top complaints with frequency
😍 What users actually love — so you don’t break what works
⚡ Quick wins — actionable improvements for developers
📱 iOS vs Android differences — because users behave differently
📊 Real sentiment — based on actual ratings, not guesswork

Works for your own app.

Works for competitors too 👀

Honest MVP note: I’m intentionally launching this early to validate demand before investing heavily into the full vision.

Right now, roasts analyze a focused set of recent reviews to keep things fast (and free) while still surfacing strong patterns quickly.

The bigger vision is to build the fastest way to understand app feedback without manually reading hundreds of reviews.

What’s next?

🔜 Deeper historical analysis (up to 5,000 reviews)
🔜 Monitoring & sentiment alerts
🔜 Competitor tracking
🔜 PDF reports
🔜 Roast history & comparisons
🔜 Trending / most roasted apps

Planned pricing direction

For now, AppRoast is free while I validate demand.

The longer-term plan is a mix of:

  • Free tier → limited daily roasts

  • Paid plans → deeper analysis, monitoring, alerts, competitor tracking, and larger review limits

I’m also testing willingness to pay through an Early Supporter offer:

$39 one-time → 12 months of Founder access when paid plans launch

Would love feedback from other founders/builders here:

  1. Would you actually use something like this?

  2. What would make it valuable enough to pay for?

  3. Which roadmap feature would matter most?

Thanks for checking out AppRoast 🙌

Cool concept — the "roast" framing is great for

making feedback feel actionable rather than

clinical. What's your primary acquisition channel

    so far?

    Love the positioning 😂

“Your users are angry. Here’s why.” immediately made me try it.

The roast framing is fun, but underneath there’s a pretty useful founder tool here.

    Hey Greg,

I’m really glad the feedback resonated with you! Honestly, launching your first project on Indie Hackers is always a big step, but you’ve nailed a very real pain point. AppRoast has a lot of potential.

That 12% weekly digest alert is definitely a killer feature founders love automated, high-level insights they can act on immediately without digging into charts.

Regarding the scaling layer (handling the 5,000+ historical reviews): whenever you're ready to tackle that roadmap item, feel free to bounce ideas off me. I deal with structural data extraction and bypassing platform throttles all the time, so I’d be happy to help you map out a stable architecture for it.

Let's definitely stay connected here & Linkedin ( www.linkedin.com/in/fawad-khan-3632ba40a). Looking forward to watching AppRoast grow!

This is a brilliant MVP, Greg! Standard sentiment tools usually miss the nuance, but 'roasting' competitor flaws is a killer angle for product validation.

Regarding your roadmap on scaling to 5,000+ reviews: as someone who builds heavy data collection pipelines, handling dynamic pagination and bypass throttles on the App Store/Play Store downstream gets tricky fast. If you can pair that deep historical scraping with the 'iOS vs Android sentiment split' as a monitoring alert, founders would absolutely pay a premium subscription for it. Bookmarking this, congrats on the launch!

Thanks so much — this honestly made my day! This is my first project on IH and I had a lot of doubts before posting, so comments like this really mean a lot.

You're spot on about the scraping complexity at scale — that's one of the bigger technical challenges ahead and something I'm thinking about carefully before going deep on the 5,000+ reviews roadmap item.

The iOS vs Android monitoring alert is exactly where I want to take this — 'your Android sentiment dropped 12% this week' as a weekly digest is the feature I think founders would actually pay recurring for.

Would love to stay in touch as I build this out!
