Nice - your app looks very interesting! Currently the post has 144 upvotes and 75 comments, how much traffic has this translated to for your tool?
I've found that reddit is (rightfully) sensitive about self promotion, regardless of if the community could greatly benefit from what I'm promoting. How were you able to make users receptive to learning about your app?
Thanks for the kind words. So I’m a bit of a dummy and didn’t have Google Analytics setup properly, so I don’t EXACTLY know how much traffic it generated. But I will keep track for the next post.
As for self promotion, yes, that’s right. Reddit is VERY anti-promotion. That’s why I didn’t frame it as a “oh, buy this tool now!” Instead, I framed it as “There’s a cool thing that I built, what do you think?”
I didn’t include a link or even the name (except for what was evident in the video). But one thing to note is that my “organic search” source went up with no keyword specified. I assume that means people directly Googled the name?
What do you think about me doing a full write up about this?
A technical write up would be great to see, it would generate a good amount of interest on indie forums. These are the same guys that would probably fall within your product's target audience.
Random thought- given the nature of your tool, some kind of brief interactive demo on your landing page could be incredibly engaging and informative.
How did you do it? Did you first test the waters?
I just jumped in both feet first. I like the video format because it means there’s less that can go wrong. Either people like the video or they don’t.
Overall, it went really well because it sparked a lot of conversation. I think it’s somewhat controversial so that probably helped as well.
