The "fun" part of coding is building features. The "boring" part is writing tests.
As a student founder, the temptation to skip testing and just
git pushis huge. But I’m building Criene—a Discipline OS.
It would be hypocritical to build an app about consistency while writing inconsistent, buggy code.
So today, instead of rushing features, I set up the testing architecture:
Vitest: For unit testing (because Jest feels too slow nowadays).
Supertest: to hit my Hono API endpoints.
I’ve started covering the critical backend flows (Auth, Penalty Logic, Payments).
It slows me down today, but it ensures I don't wake up to a broken server tomorrow.
Discipline isn't just for users. It's for the developer too.
