I have 32,000TB of storage allowance this year, what can I do with it?
by
Jackson Hong
As stated in the title.
look into filecoin
I depends on which form/platform do you have access to this space. You should think on network access as well in order to realistically monetize this space. But static site hosting and S3 like object storage are a good direction to start thinking. You can target specific communities like bioinfo and machine learning group that have a large datasets.
A Filehosting something like mega or more personal like Google Drive.
You can make money by starting a drop box clone?
Hi, just curious, where did you get such an allowance, is it for AWS or what have you, aren't there restrictions concerning your industry or your field in general? BTW, assuming, it's storage not memory? Regards, M.
I invested in opacity (a cryptocurrency and their idea were to store data on the iota tangle but it isn't feasible right now, so instead they store the data on S3 with client-side encryption where the user holds the encryption key) early on and they currently offer 2TB per 32 opacity tokens. I would very much like to reap value from my investment by either creating a product or spending the allowance in a meaningful way as opposed to holding on to them.
Aha, so 70 tokens are $1 is ~4TB storage equivalent? Your investment was worthy of 32,000 TB is $8,000? Say you want to make what the banks want to make, 25% before taxes, so you want to get $10,000 back, right? So, which industries might host customers of yours? Will it only be the most affluent? What about offering your service to Mom-and-Pop businesses? Regards, M.
I'm not familiar with Mom-and-Pop businesses, would you care to explain what's the difference between them and standard businesses? And what makes them an audience suited for the resources I have if they are
Fair question. Just was thinking of family-owned businesses there. So there might be some demand there, however neither the computer know-how nor time and money to gain access to cloud storage solutions. They will be grateful for help, and they won't need exabytes of storage anyway, so maybe it could be rewarding to cut a deal with them. Kinda naive, I know. Just brainstorming ... Regards, M.
Thanks, Chris. I'll give the idea a thought!
Wish you the best! BTW, Do you offer any sort of encryption? M.
The gateway service in this instance offers client-side encryption where the user holds the key. I'd imagine if I were to build a layer on top, then another layer of encryption will be included for the user.
Ah, thank you. Maybe encryption as-you-go might be another boon for folks without much CS under their belt (mom&pop). They have unencrypted data, move data up your cloud, data gets end-to-end encrypted on the fly, so data upload/download is transparent for customer and opaque for outside world. M.
put youtube in it.
You can share it with others ! ;)
I genuinely would like to do that, what's the best way to go about it?
