Hey everyone,
I'm Itay, the creator of mixshakemusic.com, a music streaming service that generates a genre-mixing playlist with an infinite number of songs.
Like many people, I love to listen to music - while I'm working, driving, working out and, of course, chilling with friends. My favorite way of listening is to explore and combine several genres at the same time. My favorites are: dance, alternative and pop.
I've been using many music streaming services and, unfortunately, I didn't find a service that allows me to listen to mixed-genre playlists and to change the playlist dynamically, according to my current mood. I found that this feature is missing everywhere - even on the larger streaming services.
This is why I created mixshake, a web application where you can do exactly this - stream music from YouTube and combine all the genres of music you like.
The user chooses his/her favorite genres and the application generates an infinite playlist for him/her according to his/her choices. While playing, the user can tune the genres, for example, select "more pop" and "less alternative" and the playlist regenerates dynamically.
I'm a full-stack web developer in a full-time job and built the current version of mixshake over the last few months. I used AngularJS as a client framework to build it, with AngularJS Material for UI components, YouTube API for the videos, and Fiverr for a bit of web design help.
I would love to hear your feedback! If you have any tips or suggestions on how to build my community and drive traffic/new users, I'd be very happy to hear it.
Thank you in advance for your time and great ideas.
Very cool! I just discovered some music using it!
I'd probably continue to use it (:
I'm very happy to hear that kc_tdfh!
Thanks for your feedback!
It's a really cool idea. I agree with Stevie that a larger selection of genres would be nice.
Do you plan on monetizing it somehow?
Thanks for your time RyanB!
I haven't thought about it yet.
Currently, I want to focus on validating the concept and growing my user base.
Hey Itay,
Very good idea. I'll give it a try tomorrow during my working time.
If you like writing, I suggest maybe writing guest blog posts on different blogs offering the "the best playlists for work" or "top 5 songs to hear when you cook". This will give you an option to introduce Mixshake to different people looking to hear music while they doing activities.
Hey Ron, great idea!
I'll search for small blogs where I can publish it.
I'm still trying to figure out who is my target audience.
Thanks for your suggestion!
Just had a very quick play on mobile - at first glance your UI is tight! Dig the palette.
I think you should offer a much larger selection of genres off the bat - it's awkward to search for stuff on mobile (it actually didn't work for me, maybe a bug there).
But I like the concept, will give it a proper spin at work tomorrow.
Thanks for your feedback Stevie! I really appreciate it!
I agree with you regarding the number of genres, I'm going to add more genres in the near future (and some sub-genres).
About searching on mobile, thanks for pointing that out, I'll check that.
Hey Itay,
I have a few comments.
When I change my preference for my music it doesn't change the 1st tract
Why not show all Genre at once, there doesn't seem to be that many and I was a little confused at first what the Add + Genre meant. I think if they where just check boxes it would be easier for me to understand
Besides that, I could see myself using it.
Hey timf,
Thanks for taking look at it! Awesome feedback!
checkboxes it's a good idea for that. I might use it (something like initial genres configuration).
Thanks again!
I really like the product. Very different.
On first impressions, Kudos on the design and UI. Also the logo looks really good.
I think you could use a more catchy name.
Thanks for your great feedback arjunmenon1899!
I agree with you regarding the name, I might change it in the future.
Nice app - Even though it's not what I expected, I can see people using this. At first I thought you were automating the creation of "VS." tracks i.e. The most famous one is the Grey Album which merges songs from the Beatles and Jay Z. A more mainstream one would be a LinkinPark JayZ remix.
Going back to your idea, there is a substitute for your app. Pandora's thumbprint radio just plays anything it thinks I like regardless of genre.
Thanks for your insights chaostheory!
I guess I need to improve my pitching :)
I'll check this feature on Pandora (BTW, I'm planning to add like & dislike buttons in order to optimize the playlist).
