I have been building in silence for the past 3 years, but to launch my new product (https://www.notionapps.com/) I decided to build in public. And these are the four things I didn't want to compromise on,
✅ Do not only just share the upticks and milestones, but also share when things aren't going in my favor.
✅ Do not just post about the final decisions. Instead, talk about the opinions and counter-opinions that were explored to take those decisions.
✅ Do not simply share product links and marketing numbers, share the process of building and selling.
✅ And be consistent 🤷
Hi Sameer, building in public is something I recently committed to doing as well. I certainly agree with these four guidelines towards making your BIP experience a successful one - whatever "success" means to you. It can be easier said than done though, especially when things are not going as planned, like you said.
What are you doing to validate your idea, or perhaps you've seen something to convince you that there's an appetite for notion-based apps on the market.
Other than building in public, are you levering any particular distribution strategies, niche audiences e.t.c?
Drop your twitter handle and I'll give you a follow. Would love to follow your journey!!
Hey Elijah. Congratulations on committing to building in public, I am sure it will go a long way.
I have been using Notion as a productivity tool for a while but was not happy with their mobile experience and database limitations. After talking to other Notion users, formed stronger hunches about the need for an app builder.
For our early users and validation we are also trying to engage in online communities. There are many that are Notion-related.
