I hit a revenue ceiling with my iOS app and don’t know how to break through it

I’ve been running a small iOS app for about 3 years now. It solves a problem I personally have and still use, but over the past months I’ve clearly hit a ceiling.

Organic growth is flat.

Apple Search Ads used to work, but over the last year CPC has roughly doubled, and with current conversion rates it’s no longer profitable. Scaling paid traffic just burns money.

I tried tweaking ASO, pricing, and paywalls, but none of it moved the needle in a meaningful way. The app makes money, but I can’t seem to push it past its current level.

That’s been the hardest part: the product works, users get value, yet growth feels capped by distribution costs and diminishing returns.

At this point I’m trying to step back and rethink:

  • whether the problem is market size

  • monetization strategy

  • or simply the wrong acquisition channels

Curious if others here have hit a similar plateau with mobile apps and what actually helped you break through it — or decide to move on.

the asa cpc doubling is a pattern that's hit a lot of utility apps over the past 18 months as more competitors discovered the channel. before writing it off, a few things worth auditing:

keyword granularity - if you're running broad match or search match, that's usually where efficiency dies as competition rises. exact match on your 10-15 highest-intent terms (specific problem keywords vs category keywords) often cuts cpi meaningfully even if overall volume shrinks.

where is conversion actually breaking down - is your install-to-trial rate from asa traffic worse than organic? if asa users convert to trial at a similar rate but the paywall isn't closing them, that's a different fix than the cpi problem. asa supports custom product pages (up to 35) which let you match the ad creative to the landing experience - for a utility app with multiple use cases this can move conversion rates a lot.

channel diversification before giving up on paid - meta with a lookalike audience from your existing paying users is worth testing. photo cleanup is a visual category that can work on meta with the right creative, and the economics might work even at higher cpis if your ltv is solid.

what's your rough ltv and are you subscription or one-time? the plateau problem reads pretty differently depending on the answer to that.

Congrats on the launch, looks solid. How are you currently thinking about acquiring early users and gathering feedback?
