I made a small change to my product last week. It resulted in a 40% increase in my number of signups!
It was a low-hanging fruit which I should have picked much sooner.
What did I do?
There is a screen in my product which is used to share a scoreboard or leaderboard. It looks like this
If you are logged out, you now see a prompt to login or signup.
In my experience, most of the stuff you try barely moves the needle. Impacts like this one are few and far between. That's why you need to try lots and lots of different things.
Nobody wants to work on activation. It's boring work but here's the thing, it reaches every single user. So you can see massive changes to metrics from making tiny changes to onboarding and activation flows because of how far up the funnel they are.
Correct 😊
Congrats, this is a good change and pretty reasonable (not user-unfriendly).
intersting and inspring a case
Interesting! I have a question because I'm working on activation. Did you A/B test different solutions before getting to the one that converts? Thanks :)
Nope, I winged it!
I am making changes to my product soon that will require a login anyway. So prodding users towards logging in seemed like a good idea.
Interesting impact, but do you know if these users then have a lower retention as your normal average as they may have to be motivated to do the actual sign up?
I do not know that. One step at a time 😉
Thank you Caspii for taking the time to share this.
All the best, with your next little tweak test ;-)
Thanks!
Great going!
Thanks
Congrats! Keep on iterating :)
Hello Caspar,
Your dropdown doesn't work only on one page : /click-counter
Great catch, Thomas! Thanks. It's fixed.
That's great, Caspar. Micro experiments is the way to go!
Nice work. Was just listening to an audio book that highlighted sometimes it's the small changes that make the largest difference!
Did you try few "changes" before this one or was it ur first "try"?
Also what tool r u using to monitor the effect/analytics ?
Congrats as well:) great bump!
Thanks.
This was the first time I tried to impact user signups, so it was a very lucky shot.
I have an SQL database and use Metabase for analysis. It created the posted graph.
Good stuff! Yeah it's funny how little things like this can have a big impact.
