I just launched a non-ChatGPT product

As an iOS developer, I've made quite some apps. And when your apps get traction you tend to care about ASO to get a higher ranking.

And a good ASO tool is something you craft yourself for your own need, that's the idea behind Shipmunk https://www.producthunt.com/posts/shipmunk-aso-keywords

Shipmunk can help you in 3 ways

  • Learn from apps in the App Store: The app store is a highly competitive marketplace, with millions of apps vying for user attention. By browsing trending apps across regions and examining their reviews, we can get a better understanding of the users' need to craft better experiences for them. You can translate and bookmark reviews for later.

  • Track ASO keywords: Keywords play a critical role in ASO, as they help your app appear in relevant search results on the app store. By checking global rankings and keywords for both our apps and competitors we have better clues on how to tweak our keywords. Shipmunk also comes with scores and suggestions.

  • Manage our own apps: Shipmunk can manage multiple App Store Connect accounts, letting you browse and answer reviews easily. You can also make quick replies. It also supports widgets on iOS so you can view analytics like proceeds, units on the home screen.

A year later, to the launch day

Having worked on this for a year and gotten quite some feedback, I think it's time to launch. But I was quite hesitant as no one cares more about AI products these days. But I launched any way

πŸ† #7 rank
πŸ‘Œ 38 new trials
πŸ₯° plenty feedback

There are 3 mistake lessons 😰

πŸ™„ I launched too late

It is recommended to schedule the launch for 12:01 am PST, but I made it 8 hours later.

It is also not good to launch these days due to the massive influx of ChatGPT products

πŸ™„ I shared the wrong link

I shared the Product link (https://www.producthunt.com/products/shipmunk-aso-keywords) which takes us to the Product Hub. Hub is the single location for all information related to a product's journey. And there's no upvote button on the Product page so only savvy people know where to find the upvote button.

I was under the impression that there might be some restructuring that shows the upvote button a short while after the launch.

The correct launch link should be https://producthunt.com/posts/shipmunk-aso-keywords
So next time you launch, be sure to share the Post link instead

πŸ™„ The app is confusing, and maybe too niche

While Shipmunk has indeed many features, some people told me it is a bit confusing about which features to use.

And the fact that the app is in a very specific niche - ASO for iOS developers.

Thanks for reading. Next time I should be more prepared for the launch. It was quite nervous.

The idea is good and necessary, I recommend that you work out the brand identity and corporate identity, make it focused on the b2b audience.

    1. 1

Thanks for the suggestion, I'm considering about B2B too

came here to say kudos for launching a non-chatgpt product with all these temptations nowadays

First and foremost, I want to congratulate you on your hard work and dedication to creating Shipmunk! I can see that you've put a lot of thought and effort into addressing the needs of iOS developers in terms of ASO, and it's inspiring to see your passion for your product.

I particularly love how Shipmunk focuses on learning from apps in the App Store, tracking ASO keywords, and managing multiple App Store Connect accounts. These features are really helpful for developers to stay competitive and optimize their apps for better visibility.

As a fellow developer who has also worked on an apps platform called Appollow (www.appollow.net), I can genuinely appreciate the value that Shipmunk brings to the table.

Regarding the lessons learned from your launch, don't be too hard on yourself! We all make mistakes, and the important thing is that you've learned from them and can apply this knowledge to future endeavors. Launching a product is always a bit nerve-wracking, but it's also an essential part of the journey.

I think it's great that you've received plenty of feedback from the community. This will undoubtedly help you improve Shipmunk and make it even more valuable for your target audience. And remember, being in a niche market isn't necessarily a bad thingβ€”it allows you to focus on addressing the specific needs of your audience, which can lead to a loyal user base.

Keep up the fantastic work, and I'm excited to see how Shipmunk evolves in the future!

Thank you for such nice words and the feedback. I just checked out appfollow (at first I thought it is appfollow.io or appfollow.net), it is very well crafted and I'm hooked. I just added it to my home screen on iPhone now to browse more later.

I haven't heard about this before but it looks like a very handy tool to discovery deals on App Store. How long have you been working on it and how is it going for you? Looks like it's free?

      1. 1

Initially, the concept began as a side project that captured my interest and test my skills as a developer, and I dedicated just under a year to its development during my spare moments. The platform has experienced a favorable trajectory thus far and is currently offered free of charge. My intention is to evolve it into a thriving community centered around iOS applications, and I am eager to witness its progress.

Regarding the name, it is an amalgamation of "Apollo," which conveys a sense of innovation and appeal; "App," which highlights the platform's focus on showcasing applications; and "Low," denoting an emphasis on discounted apps and games. This unique combination effectively represents the core values and offerings of the platform.

    iOS Developer here!

The app looks sick! Going to test it out and send feedback your way as soon as possible!

      Thanks for checking it out

Congratulations on launching Shipmunk! It's always an exciting and nerve-wracking experience to release a new product, especially after working on it for a year.

Regarding the three mistakes you mentioned, don't worry too much about launching too late or sharing the wrong link.

These things happen, and learning from them is crucial for future launches.

As for the app being confusing and niche, these are common challenges when developing a specialized tool.

When I was making my user feedback tool I too was thinking that it was too niche but it turned out great in the end..πŸ’†

It's essential to listen to feedback and make adjustments to improve user experience and expand your market reach.

Thanks for the kind words. I haven't launched in a while so it's indeed a bit nervous. Glad to hear your feedback tool went out great, I just checked it out, and it looks super well done. How did you come up with it?

      1. 1

Korrect was born when the co-founders of Kustard(me and my teamates) faced challenges in processing feedback for clients' software products.

We were unable to find an simple feedback tool so..

We built a simple feedback management tool to help product teams listen to multiple feedback channels and maintain public roadmaps.

With an aim to help teams build better products.
