Hi everyone! I’m Luis, and today I’m excited to share the first public release of Lite Forum.
Lite Forum started as a tool I built for myself. I run several small software products, and I needed a fast, lightweight way to create niche support communities, without installing huge platforms or managing complicated setups. Everything I tried felt too heavy, too slow, or too bloated for what I actually needed.
So I built something simple:
a modern PHP forum that installs in minutes, runs on SQLite or MySQL, and includes all the essentials (attachments, email queue, multilingual support, dark mode, private forums, etc.) without the complexity.
My goals were:
Speed: upload the files, visit the installer, done.
Lightweight: minimal codebase, no external dependencies.
Practical features: everything a real forum needs, nothing it doesn’t.
Self-hosted: full control over your data and your community.
I originally built Lite Forum for my own projects, but I realized many indie makers need the same thing: a clean, modern forum that just works.
If you want to try it, the demo and docs are here:

I’m happy to answer questions, get feedback, or hear what features you’d love to see next!
Thanks for reading, and thanks Indie Hackers for all the inspiration.
Luis
It works with both SQLite and MySQL.
Thank you!
This looks great, Luis. Congratulations on the launch.
I’ve been looking for a lightweight self-hosted forum for a while, and most options feel too heavy or overly complicated for small communities. Lite Forum seems to strike a really good balance between simplicity and the essential features.
I like that it installs quickly, works with SQLite or MySQL, and avoids unnecessary dependencies. The clean interface and straightforward design make it even more appealing.
I’m looking forward to trying it out. Thanks for sharing it.
Thank you so much!
Please let me know what you think once you have play a bit with it. Remember there is a live demo!
I have been waiting for something like this.
Easy, fast, light weight and very usefull for support forums.
Thank you!
Awesome! Thanks :)
Love this, Luis. You’re hitting a need that most people forget exists because the market has been dominated by massive, heavyweight solutions.
From a strategic perspective, Lite Forum is positioned perfectly as a “right-sized tool”—not as an inferior alternative to the big players, but as the correct solution for makers who just want community without the infrastructure headache.
A few things you nailed:
Speed-to-value: being able to upload and install in minutes is a huge selling point. Indie makers care more about momentum than dashboards full of features.
Lightweight + self-hosted: you’re giving people the benefits of old-school forums with the feel of a modern app. That’s a gap many SaaS communities don’t address.
Practical features only: the “essentials without the bloat” angle is a strong differentiator compared to platforms that have morphed into all-in-one ecosystems.
Where I see big upside: positioning Lite Forum as the community layer for tiny SaaS apps, niche hobby sites, and indie products that want control without complexity, especially as more creators move away from paid community SaaS lock-in.
Super clean execution. Curious to see how far this grows—nice work!
Thank you for your detailed and kind comments.
It's very encouraging :)
Very nice project. I wish you good luck!
We have already installed this on two sites. Took maybe six minutes each and very fast at setting up..
It’s a great forum. Super fast, not bloated with 6000 features you don’t really need as a user. Admin has all the control that needs. It’s just simple. I’ve been doing software design for over two decades, and I’m a great fan of simple and fast. Sinlios has done both without sacrificing needed functionality.
Nicely done

Fast and lightweight nut with all the functionalities you need. That was my goal from the beginning. Thank you!
Luis, congrats on the launch! I’m not very familiar with coding or building from scratch, but I tried the demo and it looks really good, fast and easy to follow. I’m building my own product (TierraNav – beta coming soon), and this is the kind of lightweight forum I could see using in the future.
Great job, and congrats again!
Thank you David for your comment.
Looking forward to see what you are working on!
Good luck :)
Simply, complete. Excellent job, Luis!
Thank you! :)
This is a very useful and beautiful application! Especially for individual developers. Luis, thank you so much for the excellent support of all your products! I am sure that this forum will be very useful to people!
Hi Luis!
Just trying to support your awesome work :)
Good luck!
Congratulations it's really fast and easy to install.
We have decided to start using this forum script here at our public library.
Very nice and useful! Dark mode is a plus. A lightweight, simple tool with top-notch features!
Congratulations on the launch.
Thank you so much for all your nice comments. It's really encouraging!
I would love to know what you think about the functionalities and if you miss anything important.
Thanks again!
