Great article and interesting story.
I was in a similar position, slightly more than 2 years ago I was working as a Software Engineer in a big corporation in London. They decided to promote me while I also had an opportunity to join another company. Both options were nice but I was never interested in any of them. For me, starting my own software consultancy was the obvious and only option. Plenty of colleagues told me that I am making a mistake.
In the meantime, my consultancy has notably matured, 4 more people joined the company while the collaboration with our clients enabled us to turn all of our experience and hard work into a repeatable, winning formula for the future. When I talk about my journey, those guys who told me not to do it are now saying "I wish I was part of that story".
It's important to know what you want and go after it even if others don't agree.
Some days will be hard but you will definitely enjoy in journey. Good luck!
Such an encouraging story. Thank you @zitto!
The path of entrepreneurship maybe a challenging one @AWaselnuk, but it's the pursuit behind happiness that evolves a person. I remember how I felt when I decided to leave a growing company like Housing.com to build my own product, Ruttl. Do check it out at www.ruttl.com, in case it might be useful to you! It's understandable how leaving Shopify must be a tough choice for you, but no matter how tough it gets, this journey will be something you will look back and cherish. I wish you all the very best on your journey to build something for yourself in this world!
Another homeschooling parent saying hello as well.
Homeschooling is definitely making it much easier for me to build my business at the same time.
Looking forward to anything that you might come up for the homeschooling space Adam.
I'll definitely share news as it comes up. Really into that space!
We have an Indie Parents group. I get tempted to create one for home schoolers. I need more indie home schoolers in my life.
Hello from another homeschooling family 👋
We've been unschooling our, ah hem, 5 kids for around 8 years now.
We do things in an unschooling way and have long had ideas/ambitions to do something around it. Not gotten much further than a domain name yet. 🤣
That's fantastic, we are also unschoolers. Whenever I talk to people I start with 'homeschooling' since that is the catch all term everyone understands. Glad you and I can get more specific :)
Looks like you have all the good reasons and motivation. Best of luck!
Much power buddy! Best of Luck!
Your path sounds somewhat similar to mine. Albeit you worked for a much larger organization. I commend you on being vulnerable in your post and sharing your intentions. I wish you luck and hope you are able to chase your true passion.
Do you like podcasts? If so, you probably know about My brother My brother and me?
I love podcasts but have not heard of that one. I'll check it out!
@AWaselnuk Thanks for the article. Your blog post helped clear up a few things in my mind. Good luck with your new venture.
That's amazing. I'm so happy to pay it forward. I read many blog posts from others to help clear up my own mind before making this decision.
