🧵 I just realized I'm working for free 25% of the time.

Here's how it happens:

1/ Client: "Can you just move this button to the right?"

Me: "Sure, no problem!" clicks move

(3 hours later I'm debugging CSS specificity issues and
responsive breakpoints)

2/ Client: "Quick copy change on the homepage"

Me: "Of course!"

(Turns into rewriting entire value prop section, updating
meta tags, testing on 4 browsers)

3/ Client: "One more design option?"

Me: "Happy to!"

(4 iterations later, they pick the original anyway)

4/ By the time I realize I should charge for this...

It's been 2 weeks.

Asking feels awkward.

So I just... don't.

5/ Last month:

This month will be the same unless I change something.

6/ The wild part?

I bet 80% of freelancers do this.

We're literally working for free because we're too polite
to have an awkward conversation.
