I launched a crypto tracker, checked the analytics, and found users in Belgium, Singapore, and Hong Kong before any US growth — here's what

Three weeks ago I quietly launched HODLTrack, a crypto portfolio tracker I'd been building for myself. No big announcement, just pushed it live and started watching the analytics.

I expected nothing. What I got was unexpected in a different way.

The first signal wasn't from the US

Within the first few days I had visitors from Belgium, Singapore, and Hong Kong. Not a lot — we're talking single digits — but consistent. They were coming back. The US traffic was there too, but these international sessions stood out because I hadn't done anything to target them.

Then I looked at the product through their eyes. Everything was hardcoded in USD. Portfolio value in USD. P&L in USD. Price charts in USD. If you're in Singapore tracking your crypto, you're constantly doing mental maths to make sense of your own portfolio.

That felt wrong.

So I shipped multi-currency support first

Before running any ads or writing any posts, I added support for USD, EUR, GBP, SGD, HKD, and CNY. Exchange rates fetched live, applied across the entire app — portfolio value, P&L, cost basis, watchlist, everything. Currency selector in the sidebar, one click.

It took about a day. I posted about it on X targeting those specific communities. The Singapore and Belgium traffic held. China spiked briefly to 28 sessions in a day. Germany appeared out of nowhere. Japan showed up this morning.

Where things stand today

• ~40 visitors/day

• 3 total signups (one of which is just me on two devices)

• $0 MRR

• Demo mode so anyone can explore without signing up

• Just joined Indie Hackers today

The honest version: traffic is there, conversions aren't yet. The gap between "explores the demo" and "creates an account" is what I'm focused on right now. I recently fixed a pretty embarrassing funnel break — demo users clicking any nav item outside the dashboard were getting thrown to the sign-in page instead of seeing what the feature does. That's now fixed with proper demo gates on every page.
