Hi,
I recently launched IdeaPz, a free project to help Indie Hackers and project creators find out if people would be willing to pay for their project idea.
You can submit your idea, get votes from people, and collect emails from those interested in your future project.
I created IdeaPz because, as someone who has launched different projects myself, I often ask myself: “Can I actually make money with this idea?”
I hope IdeaPz can help you or someone you know who is working on a project.
I'd love to hear your feedback!
Interesting idea. I like that it separates general interest from actual willingness to pay.
One thing that could make the signal even stronger might be asking users to choose a price range they would realistically pay, instead of only voting. That could help creators distinguish “this sounds cool” from “I would actually buy this.”
The email collection part also seems useful for testing whether interest carries through beyond the initial vote.
I really appreciate this.
I've made a project and I haven't gotten any traction yet. It would be good to know if people would pay for my project before I sink too much time in.
Thank you!
Thank you for taking part in the project! I really hope IdeaPz helps you and gives you some useful feedback before you spend too much time on your project.
The main risk is that votes and emails can look like willingness to pay while measuring curiosity instead.
I would make the signal ladder explicit for each idea:
You could then show founders how many people moved from one level to the next, not just the total vote count.
I would also ask voters what they use today and when they last experienced the problem. Ten votes from people with a repeated problem and a current workaround are stronger than 100 casual votes from other builders.
That distinction could become the most valuable part of the product: not "people liked your idea," but "here is what they were willing to do next."
Hi, first of all, thanks for the feedback!
I understand your point. That's exactly why I added the email option, so people don't just vote but can also be contacted directly when the project launches.
The part about questions, calls, tests, and actual commitments is really interesting though. I'll definitely keep all of that in mind.
I launched the project only 2 days ago, so I'm still trying to improve it and make it as useful as possible for project creators while keeping it simple.
Thanks again for all the feedback and advice!
The interesting part is combining voting with email interest, because that gives an idea more signal than a simple upvote. I’d be curious how closely those signals actually match what people are willing to pay for later.
Me too! The project was only launched a few days ago, so I'm curious to see how it develops. I hope some users will be able to find their first customers through IdeaPz.
Feel free to submit an idea if you'd like, and thanks for the feedback.
That makes sense. It’ll be interesting to see what the first few users actually do with it.
Yeah, I'm curious to see that too!
Same here — should be interesting to see what the first real signals look like.
Issue with such polls is that people would simply say or click I would use it just to support you or to be nice, actual answers are a lot hard to find
congrats on shipping this, the pay-validation problem is one we think about a lot too. one thing i'm wondering about, how are you handling the gap between people saying they'd pay and actually pulling out their card? that's always been the hardest signal to trust for us. going to try submitting one of our earlier ideas to see how it feels
For now, the site gives you a small estimate based on the number of people who click “I would pay” and lets you contact users who leave their email to be notified when the product launches.
Of course, knowing whether they will actually buy is much harder, and that's something I can't really control. I can only try to give creators the best signal I can and trust that people are being honest about their interest.
But you're right, I should definitely think more about how to make that signal stronger and get closer to actual purchase intent.
Thanks a lot for your feedback, it really gives me something to think about!
And I hope your idea works out too.
makes sense, real intent is always going to be the hard part to measure until money actually changes hands. maybe a small deposit or pre-order option down the line could filter out the people who are just curious vs actually ready to buy. either way this is a solid first step, most people skip validation entirely and just build
Thanks. I only launched the project a few days ago, so I still have a lot of ideas. Your feedback really helps me think about which direction I should take the site in. I really appreciate it
