Hey IH community,
Launched Ekcho this week after months of building solo. Sharing the journey here.
The idea
I kept noticing that people edit themselves online because their identity is always visible. I wanted to build something where the voice earned its own reputation completely separate from the person behind it.
Ekcho is a pseudonymous voice broadcasting app. Pick a voice name. Record. Publish. No real name, no photo, no identity on the line.
The build
Solo founder. Built on Next.js 14 with Supabase for database, auth, storage and realtime. OpenAI Whisper for audio transcription and moderation. Lemon Squeezy for payments since it works from India and handles VAT automatically. Deployed on Vercel.
Took several months from idea to launch working nights and weekends.
The features that took longest
The moderation pipeline was the hardest part. Every audio file goes through CSAM detection, Whisper transcription, then OpenAI Moderation with custom thresholds. Crisis language triggers immediate admin notification. Getting this right before launch was non-negotiable.
The listener room feature a live chat space that opens automatically when a broadcast hits 50 unique listeners — was also complex to build with Supabase Realtime.
Where I am now
Live at ekcho.net. Early signups coming in. Running Google Ads. Listed on PeerPush and Product Hunt.
What I'm figuring out
Conversion rate from ad clicks to signups is lower than I'd like. Working on the landing page and onboarding flow. Would love thoughts from anyone who's been through this.
Happy to answer anything about the build, the stack, or the journey.
Still learning myself about getting that initial user base going. I feel like there's gotta be some people on X, Reddit, or other socials that would be very interested in this. There are so many anonymous social accounts these days, and I like the idea of there being anonymous radio - I could definitely see people trying to build up a following around that! Good luck
Running ads this early is actually a good signal, you already have attention, so the issue is just what happens after the click.
For something like this, I feel like people won’t convert from explanation alone, they need to feel it quickly.
Have you tried letting people listen to a couple of real broadcasts before signup?
Also curious, are you getting any direct feedback from people who clicked but didn’t sign up? Feels like that gap might be more about first experience than traffic.
Really interesting idea, and huge respect for building this solo.
I like the core insight behind Ekcho. A lot of people do hold back online once their real identity is attached, so making the voice itself the thing that builds reputation feels fresh. The moderation side also sounds seriously hard, so it is good to hear you took that seriously before launch.
The listener room feature sounds especially cool too. That kind of live interaction can make the product feel much more alive.
Curious to know what kind of users are signing up so far, and whether you are seeing more interest from creators, anonymous confessions, or something else.
One of the most unique ideas I have seen in a while. Have a feeling your moderation pipeline might be tested heavily though! Will follow this with interest.
You’ve built something interesting, but the positioning can go deeper.
It’s not just “voice broadcasting,” it’s “a place to speak freely without identity pressure.”
That emotional angle is what converts.
Right now ads bring clicks, but without a clear visual experience, people drop off.
A sharp 15–30 sec demo showing the journey from recording , publishing ,listeners would make it click instantly.
I help founders create those kinds of high-converting videos happy to help
Interesting idea - do you see people behaving differently when they're anonymous vs when their identity is visible?
