Like a lot of you, I'm the child who moved away. The daily "did mom take her meds, did dad eat, is everything okay" anxiety was constant, and my parents hate apps — they'd never download anything.
So I built Vini — a warm companion that checks in with them on WhatsApp (which they already use daily). She asks how they're doing, reminds them about meds and appointments, and if something's off — no reply, or a worrying answer — I get alerted immediately. My siblings and I all see the same picture without the group-chat chaos.
It's been running with my own family for months. I'm now opening it to 20 more families, completely free for 6 months — no card, nothing. All I want is honest feedback from people who live this.
If you're caring for a parent from a distance and they're on WhatsApp, comment or DM me. Happy to answer anything about how it works.
The WhatsApp choice is probably the strongest product decision here. Getting older parents to adopt a new health app is a much harder problem than building the technology.
The challenge I’d watch is balancing reassurance with alerts — making families feel informed without turning every missed reply into anxiety.
