I lost 20 treks worth of memories. 10 years later, I'm back - and I built an AI tool so it never happens again.

Between 2009-2016, I did 20 serious treks across India. 11 easy, 3 moderate, 3 difficult, 3 extreme/exploration treks. Each one unique.

Back then, our trek admins would always ask us to write blogs after trips. "You'll forget the details," they said. Almost nobody did. Writing felt like homework after an exhausting trek.

I didn't write either. But I talked non-stop about every experience — the trail conditions, the weather shifts, that moment at 3am when we pushed through dense Jungle, the hard learnt lessons . I thought talking was enough.

Fast forward 10 years. Got married, got busy, stopped trekking entirely.

Now I'm back into fitness and hitting trails again. And I'm realizing: I remember almost nothing. Just vague feelings and disconnected photos on Facebook albums with GPS routes.

The stories are gone.

So I built VoiceVoyage.

The idea: Record voice notes during/after hikes → AI transcribes + transforms into story format → Add photos/videos/GPX → Get a shareable story page.

Basically, I'm making documentation as easy as talking (which I already do anyway).

Where I am:

- 6 months building (3 months real work, 3 months wasted going wrong directions)

- Product works, major bugs fixed

- 0 users (just me testing with my recent 3.5km hike)

- No revenue yet

My problem:

I'm a Java dev at a healthcare company. I know how to code, but I don't know how to reach serious hikers. Reddit /r/hiking seems spammy for self-promotion. Facebook groups are hit-or-miss.

My ask:

1. If you hike regularly (10+ times/year), would this solve a real problem for you?

2. Where do serious hiking communities hang out online?

3. How would YOU document your treks if tools weren't a barrier?

Brutally honest feedback welcome.

Congrats on the launch, looks solid. How are you currently thinking about acquiring early users and gathering feedback?

Thanks! Honestly, still figuring out the acquisition piece — that's the hardest part for me as a dev.

    Current approach:

    • Building in public on Reddit/IndieHackers (like this post)

    • Trying to get karma up to post in r/hiking, r/CampingandHiking etc

    • Reaching out to hiking bloggers/YouTubers for feedback

    • Considering Facebook hiking groups, but hesitant about coming across as spammy

    For feedback, I'm:

    • Using my own recent hikes as test cases

    • Planning to offer free lifetime access to first 50-100 users who try it and share honest feedback

    • Would love to do user interviews with serious hikers (10+ treks/year)

My biggest challenge: Finding where the "serious but not influencer" hikers hang out online. The people who do 15-30 hikes a year but aren't trying to monetize it.

Quick question: Do you hike regularly, or know anyone who does? Would be super valuable to get feedback from someone who actually faces this documentation problem vs just theorizing about it.

What's worked for you in early user acquisition?
