I lost a $5,000 client because of one forgotten email. So I built the tool Gmail never gave us.

Eight months ago I was freelancing and managing 5 clients entirely through Gmail. No CRM, No project management tool, Just email and memory.

One client sent a follow-up about a deliverable. I missed it. Saw it 11 days later. They'd already hired someone else and were politely telling me they were moving on.

That email cost me a $5,000 project.

And the worst part? It wasn't buried deep. It was three screens down in my inbox.

The problem nobody talks about:

We spend hours every week managing what's in our inbox. But we have zero visibility into what's missing from it.

Emails we sent days ago with no reply. Follow-ups we meant to send but forgot. Threads that quietly went cold while we were drowning in new messages.

I looked for a tool that would just answer one question: "Which emails am I still waiting on a reply for?"

Everything I found was either:

  1. A full CRM (overkill for a solo operator)

  2. A Gmail hack that broke after two weeks

Nothing lightweight. Nothing simple. Nothing that just answered that one question. So I built it.

    What I built:

MailWise — a Gmail tool that automatically surfaces every email waiting on a reply, sends follow-up reminders before threads go cold, and shows inbox analytics so you understand your communication patterns.

2-minute setup. No new workflow. No migration. Just the layer Gmail was always missing.

    How I built it:

Solo founder. Full-time job during the day. Built entirely at nights and weekends.

Stack: Gmail API, Supabase, Render, React. CASA Tier 2 verified for Gmail API security — went through the full Google verification process to make sure user data is handled correctly.

    Month 1 honest numbers:

    • Launched on Product Hunt this week

    • Early users actively using it

    • DR 0 → submitting to 15+ directories for backlinks

    • Marketing budget: $0

    What I got Wrong

  • Underestimated distribution completely. Building the product was the easy part.

  • Reddit kept removing my posts — account karma too low. Lost 2 weeks trying.

  • Should have started building an audience before launch, not after.

  • No referral system yet — users who love it have no built-in way to share it.

The "aha" moment users keep describing:

They sign in, Gmail syncs, and within 30 seconds they see a list of emails they sent days ago that never got a reply. Threads they completely forgot about.

That first view hits differently when it's your actual inbox staring back at you.

If you're a freelancer, consultant, founder, or anyone who runs their business through Gmail — I'd love you to try it.

Free for 2 weeks. No card required. Takes 2 minutes to set up.

And if you've been through early distribution struggles as a solo founder — I'd genuinely love to hear what worked for you. That's the part nobody writes the honest playbook for.
