Hey hackers 👋
I’m building a simple habit tracker with a twist:
If you don’t do what you said you would, you get charged real money.
If you stay consistent, you pay nothing.
You set the goal (e.g., gym 4x/week)
You set the consequence (e.g., $5 per miss)
The app keeps you accountable.
Why? I noticed people (including me) often ignore normal habit apps — there’s no real consequence. This adds just enough pain to make follow-through way more likely.
I'm still in early feedback mode and would love to know:
Would this work for you personally?
What kind of habits would you want this for?
Would you prefer money go to charity, to a friend, or just be lost?
Thanks in advance — happy to talk more with anyone curious 🙏
how far are you in this?
Smart psychological nudge @horatium, loss aversion is no joke!
I could totally see this working for fitness, writing, or even staying off social media.
Personally, I’d lean toward sending the money to charity or a friend… the idea of it just disappearing would stress me out lol
Are you thinking solo users? It would be cool if this eventually supports accountability buddies too 👀 (Then maybe the money could go to the buddy? lol)
That’s awesome to hear , totally agree, fitness/writing/social media are big ones I’m thinking about too.
Yeah, sending the money to a charity or friend seems way more motivating than it just vanishing (lol same). I’ve been thinking about letting users choose where it goes: charity, buddy, or even back to themselves as a reward if they stick to it long enough.
And YES to accountability buddies! I want solo mode to be the default, but I love the idea of bringing in friends. That unlocks more fun dynamics like “your buddy gets the $ if you slack” 😂
Would you want it to be public progress between buddies or more private?
