I’m building an AI product designed to be forgotten

I think most AI products are built for demos, not for real life.

So I’m building Tell Me a Sheep with a constraint that sounds stupid in 2026:
no engagement hacks, no endless features, no “wow effect”.

Just short, calm, personalized bedtime stories for kids.

As a builder, this raises a real question I’m struggling with:
Can a product survive if it’s designed to disappear into a routine instead of maximizing usage?

Technically, I’m limiting myself on purpose: fewer inputs, fewer options, faster output. Emotionally, I’m betting that parents value calm more than novelty.

But maybe I’m wrong.

If you’ve built (or killed) a product that went against engagement-first thinking:

  • What worked?

  • What failed?

  • Where did reality punch you in the face?

I’m shipping anyway — but I’d rather learn faster.
