I’m thinking of building a simple tool to solve monthly invoice chaos for freelancers / small businesses — would this be useful?

Hey everyone,

I’m considering building a small side project and I want to validate if this is actually a common problem or just my personal pain point.

Right now, every month I spend a lot of time collecting invoices and documents for my accountant:

digging through emails (Gmail search, attachments, subscriptions)
downloading invoices from different SaaS tools (OpenAI, hosting, etc.)
uploading everything to Google Drive in monthly folders
checking if I forgot something (which I often do)

The annoying part is not storage — it’s the uncertainty:

“Did I actually collect everything for this month?”

My idea is a very simple tool:

Connect to email (Gmail/Outlook)
Automatically detect invoices and receipts
Organize them by month
Let users manually add missing documents
Have a “monthly checklist” of expected recurring invoices (subscriptions, services, bank statements, etc.)
Show something like:
“June: 12 expected documents, 10 received, 2 missing”

Optional later:

accountant access (read-only)
export monthly package (ZIP/PDF bundle)

The goal is not to replace accounting software, but to remove the monthly “document hunting” routine.

Before I build anything, I’d love to ask:

Do you also have this problem?
How do you currently handle it?
Would you pay for something like this (and how much)?
Or is this already solved well enough with existing tools?
